Radical preacher Amritpal Singh's close aide Papalpreet Singh has been arrested from Punjab's Hoshiarpur, police said on Monday. Papalpreet was arrested in a Punjab Police operation that also involved its counter intelligence wing, they said. Papalpreet is considered to be his mentor and has allegedly been in contact with Pakistan's ISI. Amritpal and Papalpreet had been on the run since March 18 when the Punjab Police launched a crackdown against the Khalistan sympathiser and his aides. The radical preacher escaped the police net in Jalandhar district on March 18, switching vehicles and changing appearances. He and his associates have been booked under several criminal cases related to spreading disharmony among classes, attempt to murder, attack on police personnel and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duty by public servants.

Sikar police have arrested an accomplice of gangsters Lawrence Bishnoi and Rohit Godara in connection with the murder of gangster Raju Thehath. Dinesh Jakhar (21) alias Dina Bari was also wanted in connection with an attack on a liquor contractor. Sikar SP Karan Sharma said Dinesh had hatched the conspiracy to murder Thehath. The CBI arrested six people on Friday in connection with its investigation into the alleged irregularities in the recruitments made by the West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC), a senior officer said. Those arrested were allegedly working as agents, collecting money from candidates, and facilitating their employment in various schools across the state, he said. "We have got specific evidence against them," the CBI officer said. These people were being questioned by the CBI for a long, he said. Several people have been arrested by the agency in connection with the irregularities, including former education minister Partha Chatterjee.

Launching a massive crackdown on anti-social elements, Kerala police on Sunday arrested more than 2,500 people across the state. Police, in a statement, said 2,507 persons were arrested across the state as part of its initiative to curb anti-social activities in Kerala. The arrests were made after raiding 3,501 places since February 4 and registered a total of 1,673 cases, the State Police Chief's Office said. Thiruvananthapuram recorded the maximum number of arrests with 333 but the most number of cases were registered in Kannur district -- 257. The action came after a rise in anti-social activities being reported in the state. Thrissur recorded 301 arrests followed by Kozhikode and Kannur with 272 and 271 cases, respectively. Following Kannur, Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur registered 239 and 214 cases, respectively.

Three persons were arrested here after allegedly being found in possession of Kajal wood worth Rs 14 lakh, police said on Wednesday. The trio was held while allegedly transporting 144 nuggets of Kajal wood to Saharanpur during a routine check at a police barrier in Dunda, Superintendent of Police Arpan Yaduvanshi said. Found in the reserved forests of the upper Himalayan region, Kajal wood is known for its medicinal qualities and used to make bowls for Buddhist monks. Assistant US Attorney Nicolas Roos said in US District Court in Manhattan that Bankman-Fried, 30, perpetrated a fraud of epic proportions. A woman who had allegedly levelled a "fabricated" gang-rape charge in an attempt to grab property was arrested on Saturday, a day after police booked her and three of her accomplices for cheating and forgery. The Delhi woman had claimed that she was kidnapped and raped by five men for two days. "The woman was arrested by our police team. She was presented before a magistrate to record her statement.
