BOC Aviation Limited has delivered the last of eight Airbus A320NEO aircraft to InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (IndiGo) under a purchase-and-leaseback agreement signed earlier this year. The aircraft is powered by CFM Leap engines, according to a statement. Steven Townend, deputy managing director and chief financial officer of the Singapore-based BOC Aviation, said, "The delivery of these eight aircraft reflects the strong cooperation that we have established with IndiGo, India's largest passenger airline." "We look forward to building on our relationships with major airline partners such as IndiGo, as we continue to support our airline customers in financing their aircraft deliveries," Townend added.

The US-based aircraft engine maker Pratt & Whitney on Thursday announced that Air India's arm AIESL will maintain the company's geared turbofan (GTF) engines in the country. At present, Pratt & Whitney (P&W) has more than 700 aircraft in service in India, including more than 150 GTF-powered A320neo family aircraft. A320 neo planes have been grappling with snags for nearly four years. A substantial number of such neos are operated in India by IndiGo and GoAir. P&W has already a tie-up with Air India Engineering Services Ltd (AIESL) for maintenance of its 4056 engine model. These engines power Boeing 747-series aircraft. AIESL will service PW1100G-JM engines at its facility in Mumbai, P&W, which is a part of the United Technology Corporation (UTC), said in a release. PTI had reported it last week that P&W had signed an agreement with AIESL for its engine maintenance services in India. With AIESL performing maintenance on our high-tech GTF engines, we are excited .

IndiGo and GoAir have grounded nine A320 neo planes due to Pratt & Whitney engine problems, prompting Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu to seek a detailed report on the issue from regulator DGCA. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) today also said the engines are being continuously monitored and safety issues are addressed adequately. "At present, there are 60 A320 neos with P&W engines (41 with IndiGo and 19 with GoAir). As on date, 7 with IndiGo and 2 with GoAir are on ground," the regulator said in a statement. These groundings are due to combustor distress found during routine scheduled boroscopic inspection. These are all Block B combustors, it added. This refers to inspection done using a boroscope -- an optical device that is used for inspecting parts that are generally inaccessible.
