CWG 2022 Day 6 Highlights
It was a day of firsts once again as Tejaswin Shankar became the first High Jump medalist from India in Commonwealth Games history with his bronze medal-winning performance. Shankar, who had to fight a court battle to get to Birmingham jumped 2.22 Metres to get the bronze medal. Saurav Ghosal came up with yet another inspiring performance as the 35-year-old became the first Indian to win an individual medal in Squash. He won bronze after beating home favourite Englishman James Willstrop.
Apart from these two bronze medals, India won three more medals, two of them silver. While Tulika Maan lost the Judo +78 kg final by Ippon to her Scottish opponent after leading the four-minute match for the first three minutes, Lovepreet Singh and Gurdeep SIngh won bronze medals in 109 kg and 109+ kg category of Men's Weightlifting.
Indian Hockey teams in action
Both the Indian men's and women's hockey teams registered victories against Canada, but in a contrasting fashion. While the women were at one stage tied 2-2, before eventually winning the game 3-2 in the last quarter, the men thrashed the minnows 8-0. Both the teams have now booked their place in the semi-final
Women's Cricket team in action
Talking about booking a place in the semi-final, the Indian Women's cricket team also booked its place in the last four by beating Barbados with a huge margin of 100 runs. India finished the group stage with two wins and a narrow loss against Australia.
Indian Boxers in action
The Indian boxing contingent had a mixed day. It won its first three bouts and secured three medals through Nitu Ganghas (Women's 48 kg), Nikhat Zareen (Women's 50 kg) and Muhammad Hussamuddin (Men's 54-57 kg), but lost the last two bouts of the Olympic bronze medalist Lovlina Borgohain and Olympian Ashish Kumar (men's 80 kg) on a split decision, which were not really taken well by the losing boxers because they thought they deserved the vioctory.
