Domestic airlines banned 143 passengers from flying for disruptive and unruly behaviour in the past five years, the civil aviation ministry told Rajya Sabha on Monday.

The decision to put a passenger under no-fly list was on the recommendation of internal committees constituted by the airlines for this purpose.

As per Directorate General of Civil Aviation rules, unruly behaviour is classified in three categories. A passenger can be put in a no-fly list from three months up to two years.

According to the ministry, most of the passengers were put in no fly list for not wearing masks on-board aircraft or not obeying cabin crew instructions.
