Who is Swami Prasad Maurya?

Indian politician Swami Prasad Maurya is a member of the Samajwadi Party and also a member of the 17th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh.  
 
Life and Education
 
Swami Prasad Maurya was born on January 2, 1954, in Pratapgarh and is married to Shiva Maurya. The couple has two children. Maurya's daughter Sanghmitra is a BJP MP and represents Badaun in the Lok Sabha.
 
Maurya hails from the other backward class (OBC) community. He graduated from Allahabad University and received degrees of Bachelor of Laws and Master of Arts (LLB).
 
Career
 
Swami Prasad Maurya started his political journey in 1980 and became MLA first from 1996 to 2002. He was appointed as chairman of Yuva Allahabad in UP. He joined Janta Dal in 1991 as the General Secretary and soon resigned from the party in 1996.
 
From March to October 1997, he was a minister in the BJP-backed Mayawati government. From 2002 to 2003, he returned as a minister in the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government.
 
Maurya represents Padrauna constituency and was previously a member of BJP, which he joined after his association with BSP.
 
He has been a member of the Legislative Assembly for five terms from the Dalmau and Padrauna constituencies as well as, a minister in the UP government, Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the House.
 
Ahead of the 2022 UP assembly elections, he resigned from the state cabinet of the Yogi Adityanath ministry and joined the Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party in January 2022.
 
From 2017 to January 2022, Maurya was the Cabinet Minister for Labour, Employment and Co-ordination in the BJP-ruled government of UP.
