Who is Sanjiv Mehta?
Sanjiv Mehta is an Indian businessman, who is currently serving as the chairman and managing director of Hindustan Unilever Limited. Mehta is also the President of Unilever's South Asia business and is a member of the Unilever Leadership Executive.
Sanjiv Mehta's life and education
Mehta was born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh in 1961 and was brought up in Mumbai. Mehta is the son of SP Mehta, who was a retired senior executive with the Reserve Bank of India. He is a Commerce graduate and has done chartered accountancy from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. Mehta has studied Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
He is married to Mona Mehta, who too is a CA. The couple has twin daughters, Naina and Roshni.
Career
Mehta started his career with Union Carbide in 1983 and was a part of the crisis management team for the Bhopal Gas tragedy in 1984. He joined Unilever Bangladesh in 1998 as commercial director and was appointed its chairman and managing director in 2002.
He was appointed chairman of Unilever Philippines in 2007 and in 2009, he became the chairman of Unilever North Africa and the Middle East.
Mehta took responsibility for heading Unilever’s business in India and South Asia in October 2013.
He is also President of FICCI, Director on the board of the Indian School of Business.
Mehta also co-chairs the advisory network to the High-Level Panel for a ‘Sustainable Ocean Economy. He is also the chair of 'Vikaasa', which is a coalition of top Indian and MNC companies.
