Who is Sanjiv Kapoor?
With over 20 years of experience, Sanjiv Kapoor is a seasoned aviation professional who joined the Indian airline firm Jet Airways as its chief executive officer (CEO) on April 4, 2022. He began his airline career with Northwest Airlines in the United States in 1997 in finance, planning, and procurement. He has also worked with Temasek Holdings, and Oracle Corporation.
Sanjiv Kapoor belongs to Kolkata. He is an alumnus of La Martiniere school and did his graduation in Computer Science from Dartmouth College in 1990. Kapoor received his MBA degree from Wharton (University of Pennsylvania) in 1996.
Prior to joining Jet Airways, he served as the president of Oberoi Hotels and Resorts and was also associated with budget carriers like SpiceJet and GoAir as well as with full-service carrier Vistara in various capacities in the past.
Kapoor, who has previously worked with Bain and Company and Temasek Holdings in aviation practice, is considered an expert in mergers and acquisitions and a turnaround strategy. He was also a CEO at GMG airlines in Bangladesh.
The aviation veteran joined SpiceJet in October 2013 when he led the airline as its chief operating officer (COO) during 2014-15 implementing innovative pricing and marketing strategies as well as CEO from November 2013 until October 2015. He left SpiceJet in 2016.
Earlier, Kapoor was the chief strategy and commercial officer at Vistara where he oversaw strategy, marketing, network planning and other functions.
