Who is Sanjiv Goenka?
Sanjiv Goenka is an Indian businessman and Chairman of RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group. In April 2001, Sanjiv Goenka took over as the youngest-ever President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). He was also the president of All India Management Institute (AIMA), and a member of the Prime Minister’s Council on Trade & Industry.
According to Forbes magazine, his net worth is $2.8 billion as of January 2022. He is also the current Chairman of the Board of Directors of Woodlands Medical Centre Ltd, Kolkata.
Sanjiv Goenka's background
Born in 1961, Goenka is the younger son of the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group’s Chairman Emeritus Rama Prasad Goenka. R P Goenka established RPG Enterprises in 1979 with Phillips Carbon Black, Asian Cables, Agarpara Jute and Murphy India as the constituents.
In April 2001, the son took over as the youngest-ever president of the CII, was appointed Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and currently serves on the board of the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata.

Goenka controls the $4 billion (revenue) conglomerate RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, headquartered in Kolkata. Its flagship is 122-year-old power utility, CESC, which Goenka has restructured into four separate companies.
The group's businesses include power and energy, carbon black manufacturing, retail, IT-enabled services, FMCG, media and entertainment, and agriculture, and has over 44,000 employees.
Other assets include supermarket chain Spencer's and snacks brand Too Yumm!, which his son Shashwat looks after. Goenka owns a majority stake in football team ATK and had the two-year franchise for the Indian Premier League cricket team Rising Pune Supergiants. In 2021, the RPSG Group was the winner for the Lucknow IPL franchise worth Rs 7,090 crore.
