The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday earmarked more than Rs 2,250 crore for the police department and said crime has come down drastically in the state in 2022 as compared to 2016 when the Samajwadi Party was in power. The budgetary allocation is aimed at strengthening the state's law and order system by providing accommodation facilities for police officers and employees on the one hand and allowing commissionerate offices to operate on their own lands. Presenting the state's budget for financial year 2023-24, Finance Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna told the Assembly that the priority of the government was to prepare the police force to face challenges before law and order in an effective way. He said as compared to 2016, the incidents of crime saw a downward trend in the year 2022. Disruption of House proceeding is neither in the interest of democracy nor for the state and the opposition should raise issues in a dignified way, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Monday. Adityanath made the remarks ahead of the start of the Budget session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly. "There can be 'asahmati' (differences) between ruling and opposition parties. The ruling side cannot run away from answering issues of public interest. Disruption (of House) is neither in the interest of democracy nor the state," he told reporters in assembly premises. He said the opposition should raise issues with "shalinta" (in a dignified way) and use "Prabhavi shabdavali" (effective words) in the House. "The budget for 25 crore people of the state will be presented on February 22. If needed, after discussion with other party leaders, the House will also meet on Saturday also," he said. The modernisation of sugar mills in the last six years has transformed them into "integrated sugar complexes," Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Friday. Addressing an event on the occasion of 120 years of the sugar industry in the state, he said sugar in the state today is being produced on the same premises where there is an oxygen plant and an ethanol plant. "UP's sugar mills which are the largest producer of sugarcane and sugar in the country, are now being recognised as a source of 'green energy' with adoption of the policies of the Prime Minister and production of ethanol in large quantities," he said. The first sugar mill in the state was established in Deoria. The Allahabad High Court has quashed criminal proceedings against Congress leader and former Union minister Salman Khurshid for his remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. The proceedings were quashed after Khurshid expressed regret, saying he did not intend to hurt anyone. Justice Dinesh Kumar Singh allowed the petition filed by Khurshid for quashing the criminal proceedings. Khurshid made the statement during the poll campaign while responding to questions by journalists about an alleged statement of the chief minister that the Congress leader was a sympathiser of the Batla House accused/terrorists. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday directed officials to get investment proposals received during the Global Investors Summit implemented on the ground. The chief minister held a special meeting with additional chief secretaries, principal secretaries and CEOs of Industrial Development Authorities of all departments at his 5 Kalidas Marg residence. He reviewed the proposals department-wise and gave necessary guidelines for their implementation. According to a statement issued here, he said that during the summit the state received more than Rs 13,000 proposals worth more than Rs 16 lakh crore, which have been prepared for immediate implementation by the investors. He directed officials to constitute an investment implementation unit for monitoring and implementation of investment proposals and depute a nodal officer for every Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed. He also asked to depute "Udyami Mitra" for helping entrepreneurs.
Months after Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was disqualified from the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly, his son Abdullah Azam Khan possibly faces the same fate after a Moradabad court sentenced him to two years in jail in a 15-year-old case. Assembly officials on Tuesday said they are waiting for the copy of the Moradabad court's judgment and will take a decision on declaring the Swar seat vacant after receiving it. The Representation of the People Act lists offences which can lead to disqualification of legislators, and also states that anyone sentenced to imprisonment of two years or more shall be disqualified "from the date of such conviction" and remain disqualified for another six years after serving time in jail. "Once information about the judgment comes, a decision will be taken regarding declaration of vacancy (of the Swar seat represented by Abdullah Azam Khan)," a senior official of the Uttar Pradesh assembly told PTI. Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Uttar Pradesh has streamlined its public distribution system by digitalising it to provide subsidised foodgrains to 15 crore people, which has helped the state save Rs 1,200 crore annually, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Monday. Investment proposals have been made for all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh in the Global Investors Summit, unlike earlier when investment in the state, meant only in the areas falling in the National Capital Region, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Sunday. He also said these proposals will lead to the creation of 93 lakh job opportunities and asserted that the state is a safe destination for investment. "The investment that will come into Uttar Pradesh will foster development. Investment proposals worth Rs 33.5 lakh crore were received in the Global Investors Summit. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Sunday said the implementation of central schemes in Uttar Pradesh has accelerated significantly since Yogi Adityanath took over as chief minister of the state. Addressing a session on "reimagining cities as growth centres for new Uttar Pradesh" at the Global Investors Summit here, the Union housing and urban development minister said India will become the world's largest economy by 2040. "Development and implementation of schemes in Uttar Pradesh have accelerated significantly since Yogi Adityanath took over as chief minister of the state in 2017, Puri said. "I continue to visit the city every second or third month. The previous government had little interest in implementing the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which was launched by the central government in June 2015," he said. After Adityanath took over in 2017, more than 17 lakh houses were built in the next 17 months, Puri said. "These figures are enough to tell the success story of the state.
