Rain, snowfall likely in Himachal Pradesh this week

The meteorological department has predicted rains in parts of Himachal Pradesh and snowfall at the higher reaches this week, even as the weather remained dry in the state since Saturday. Rain is likely to occur at isolated places in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, parts of Kangra, Solan and Sirmaur districts on October 17 and 18, a weather department official said. Thundershowers may occur in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, parts of Solan, Sirmaur and Chamba districts from October 17 to October 20, Shimla MeT centre director Manmohan Singh said . Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, and higher areas of Kullu and Mandi districts may witness snowfall from October 16 to 20, he said. The weather remained dry in the state since Saturday, the weatherman said, adding there was no appreciable change in minimum and maximum temperatures. The lowest minimum temperature in the state was recorded at Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district at -0.1 degrees celsius, whereas the highest maximum temperature was recorded at .

Nip in air, minimum temp plunges to 16.6 deg cel in Delhi

There was a perceptible nip in the air in the national capital with the minimum temperature plunging to 16.6 degrees Celsius. The day temperature was recorded at 31.2 degrees Celsius, which was two notches below the season's average, while the city registered a minimum of 16.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season's average. Humidity levels oscillated between 88 and 32 per cent. The Met office has forecast clear skies along with mist on Sunday morning. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 33 and 16 degrees Celsius, respectively," the weatherman said. On Friday, the maximum and minimum temperatures settled at 32.4 and 17.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.

1 killed, 10 injured as Cyclone Titli moves northeastward

Cyclonic storm Titli left a trail of destruction in two districts of West Bengal on Friday, killing one person and injuring 10 others, even as it weakened into a deep depression while moving northeastward. The meteorological department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Gangetic West Bengal till Saturday. Paschim Medinipur and neighbouring Jhargram districts in West Bengal have been witnessing incessant rain since Thursday night. A 35-year-old security guard was killed when a 12-foot factory wall collapsed on him at Kharagpur in Paschim Medinipur district. Ten others were injured in various rain-related incidents, District Magistrate P Mohan Gandhi said. In neighbouring Jhargram too, several mud houses and Durga Puja pandals collapsed owing to cyclone Titli, officials said. Heavy rains likely in Gangetic West Bengal as Cyclone Titli moves northeastwards

The meteorological department on Friday warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Gangetic West Bengal till Saturday as the cyclonic storm 'Titli', which has weakened into a deep depression, moved towards northeast. The storm system is very likely to further lose steam and turn into a depression as it moves through Odisha and enter the Gangetic West Bengal after recurving northeastwards following landfall at Gopalpur in Ganjam district of Odisha, the weatherman said. It is, however, likely to cause heavy to very heavy rain in the Gangetic West Bengal, with North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, East Burdwan, Howrah and Hooghly districts to be affected the most. Heavy rain is likely in Kolkata, Bankura, Purulia, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Malda, North and South Dinajpur districts till Saturday. Strong dusty winds bring down mercury in Delhi

Strong dusty winds lashed some some parts of the city Thursday, bringing down mercury, a MeT department said. Weather remained pleasant in the national capital on Thursday with the maximum temperature settling at 32.3 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average. Fresh snowfall, rains in Himachal Pradesh

The minimum and maximum temperatures dropped marginally as heavy rains lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh. According to the MeT Department here, Keylong recorded the lowest temperature in the state at -0.1 degrees Celsius. Lahaul-Spiti district of the state received fresh snowfall. In the past 24 hours, 38 mm of rainfall was recorded at Naina Devi followed by 29 mm in Hamirpur, 25 mm in Dalhousie, 22 mm in Dharamshala, 21 mm in Saloni, 19 mm in Berthin, 16 mm in Chamba, 15 mm in Gohar, 13 mm in Una, 12 mm each in Banjar, Aghar and Bhoranj, 11 mm each in Rohru and Bijahi and 10 mm in Baldwara.

Heavy snowfall in parts of Himachal Pradesh

Few districts of Himachal Pradesh witnessed heavy snowfall and rains on Thursday affecting normal life.The Chanshal peak in Shimla district, Bharmaur and Pangi in Chamba district, Rohtang in Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti district among others witnessed snowfall and rains.Local administration has restricted vehicle movement beyond Gulaba barrier at Rohtang Pass and adjoining areas. Keylong, Stingri, Baralacha, Kunzum and Kaza areas in Lahaul-Spiti district received fresh snowfall till Thursday afternoon.The Border Road Organisation has issued advisories not to visit the region.Meanwhile, Member of Parliament from Mandi Ram Swaroop Sharma was also stuck in Keylong region due to snowfall. He reached Manali with the help of BRO rescue team through the Rohtang tunnel.Between September 21 and September 24, over 5000 people got stuck in Lahaul-Spiti district and they were later rescued during an operation which went on for over five days.

Dry weather in UP, day temperatures fall in Allahabad division

Uttar Pradesh experienced dry weather with temperatures falling appreciably in Allahabad division, the meteorological department said on Thursday. Day temperatures fell appreciably in Allahabad division on Wednesday, with Agra recording the highest maximum temperature in the state at 36.6 degrees Celsius. The weatherman has predicted rain and thundershowers at isolated places in eastern Uttar Pradesh, and dry weather in western parts of the state tomorrow.

Cyclone Titli: no effect in WB on landfall, may trigger rain

The very severe cyclonic storm 'Titli' did not have much effect in West Bengal following its landfall Thursday, but the southern districts of the state are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain as it is may turn towards Gangetic West Bengal, officials said. The storm is likely to move northwestwards till Thursday evening and then recurve northeastwards towards Gangetic West Bengal, weakening gradually into a deep depression by Friday morning, the weatherman said. The cyclone has made landfall early Thursday with surface wind reaching speed of 126 kmph at Gopalpur of Ganjam district in neighbouring Odisha. Since there was no significant damage to railway tracks and overhead wires and other logistics, South Eastern Railway said it will run its services to different destinations in south India along the normal route. Delhiites woke up Thursday to a partly cloudy morning, with the minimum temperature settling at 24.5 degree Celsius, four notches above the season's average. The weatherman has predicted light rain in some parts of the city later in the day. According to the Meteorological (MeT) Department, the humidity level recorded at 8.30 am was 74 per cent. Excess rainfall in Pb, slight deficit in Hry this monsoon: MeT dept

Punjab and Haryana, known as the grain bowl states of India, received close to normal monsoon rains this year, a meteorological department official said here on Wednesday. The south-west monsoon, which has withdrawn from the two states, including Chandigarh, on October 1, had turned quite active in the final phase and both the states received heavy rainfall between September 22 and 24, the official said. In the last three year, both Punjab and Haryana had witnessed monsoon rain deficit in the range of25-30 per cent. But this year, overall the two states received good rains, though some districts faced deficit. During the June 1-September 30 period, seven per cent excess rainfall lashed Punjab, which received 527.4 mm rains as against normal of 491.5 mm, the weather department official told PTI.
