Southwest monsoon hits Kerala in an early entry: IMD

The southwest monsoon today hit Kerala, three days before its scheduled arrival, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The conditions are favourable for further advance of the monsoon into some parts of central Arabian Sea, remaining parts of Kerala, parts of coastal and south interior Karnataka, parts of east-central and northeast Bay of Bengal, and some parts of northeastern states during the next 48 hours, it said. The onset of monsoon over the southern state of Kerala marks the commencement of the four-month long rainy season in the country. "Today, the southwest monsoon has further advanced into remaining parts of southeast Arabian Sea, ComorinMaldives area, entire Lakshadweep, most parts of Kerala, some parts of Tamil Nadu and some more parts of southwest, central and northeast Bay of Bengal. Monsoon expected to hit Kerala in 24 hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted that the southwest monsoon will hit Kerala in the next 24 hours, three days before the normal onset date.According to Skymet Weather, conditions have been favorable for the further advancement of southwest monsoon, covering parts of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, parts of the Bay of Bengal during the next 24 hours."During next 24 hours, southwest monsoon likely to advance. No respite from scorching heat in lower hills of Himachal, water crisis worsens in Shimla

The lower hills of Himachal Pradesh continued to reel under scorching sun as Una in foothills recorded day temperature at 43.2 degrees Celsius, while the water crisis worsened in Shimla. Heat wave conditions prevail in Delhi

The national capital continued to reel under heat wave conditions with the maximum temperature settling at 43.5 degrees Celsius, three notches above the season's average. The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.2 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, said a Meteorological department official. The humidity oscillated between 60 and 19 per cent, the official said. The Met office has forecast overcast skies, along with the possibility of a dust storm and thunderstorm, towards evening for tomorrow. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 43 and 28 degrees Celsiusrespectively," the weatherman said. Heat wave continues unabated in Hry, Pb; Hisar hottest at 45.5 deg C

Heat wave sweeping most parts of Haryana and Punjab for the past several days continued unabated today, with Hisar once again turning out to be the hottest place in the two states at 45.5 degrees Celsius. Hisar in Haryana recorded a three degrees above normal maximum temperature, Meteorological Department report said here. Among other places in Haryana, blistering heat swept Bhiwani, which recorded a high of 44 degrees Celsius while Narnaul, too, had a hot day at 43.5 degrees Celsius. Heatwave conditions continue to prevail at isolated places in Uttar Pradesh. On Sunday, day temperatures were above normal in Allahabad, Agra, Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Kanpur, Lucknow, Bareilly, Moradabad and Jhansi, according to the MeT department here. Southwest Monsoon hits Kerala, says Skymet

The Southwest Monsoon hit Kerala today, marking the arrival of the rainy season in the country, private weather forecasting agency Skymet said. However, the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the country' official weather forecaster, in its 8.15-am bulletin, said Monsoon would hit Kerala in the next 24 hours. "There are Monsoon-like conditions over Kerala and we can say that the annual rainfall season has arrived," Skymet CEO Jatin Singh told PTI. The Skymet, in its forecast, said that Monsoon would hit the Kerala coast on May 28, while the IMD has made a prediction for its arrival on May 29. The prevailing heatwave condition in the national capital today continued as the mercury settled at 44.2 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average. At Palam observatory, the maximum temperature recorded was 45.8C, five notches above the season's average.
