A total of 11,025 vehicles (7,750 private and 3,275 government vehicles) have been scrapped till March 31 this year by the registered vehicle scrapping facilities, Parliament was informed on Wednesday. In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari further said 24 states/UTs have reported 2,56,935 government-owned vehicles older than 15 years. The central government has provided incentives to state governments for implementation of the Vehicle Scrapping Policy, he added. "The scheme for special assistance to states for capital investment has been extended for the financial year 2023-24 by the government and the incentive amount to the states has been increased to Rs 3,000 crore, to incentivise scrapping of state government vehicles, which are older than 15 years, waiver of liabilities on old vehicles, providing tax concessions to individuals for scrapping of old vehicles and setting up of automated vehicle testing facilities," he ...
The Delhi government on Wednesday kicked off a drive to send overage vehicles directly for scrapping. The move is aimed at encouraging vehicles owner in Delhi to come forward and scrap their overage vehicles, said Transport Department officials. "Under the new initiative, end of life vehicles will be impounded and directly sent to scrapping yard if they are found plying on city roads or parked in public places," said an official. On Wednesday, 10 teams of Enforcement Wing, Transport Department, impounded 50 vehicles which are more than 10 years old (diesel) and 15 years old (petrol) found plying or deemed to be plying (parked in public place) in Civil Lines area and handed over to RVSF (Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility), registered under RVSF Rules-2021, for scrapping, the official said. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) on Wednesday said 11 states/UTs have been onboarded onto the National Single Window System (NSWS) for Voluntary Vehicle-Fleet Modernization Program (V-VMP) to attract private investment in the vehicle scrapping ecosystem. The ministry, in a statement, further said as on November 14, 2022, applications of 117 investors who have shown interest for Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facilities (RVSF) are under process, out of which 36 applications have been approved by the respective state governments. Honda Cars India on Monday said it has tied up with Maruti Suzuki Toyotsu for vehicle scrapping. The initiative will allow Honda to offer its customers an end-to-end solution for scrapping their End of Life Vehicles (ELVs). With this tie-up, the Japanese automaker strives to assist its customers to get the best value for their ELVs and facilitate hassle-free deregistration and issue of Certificate of Deposit/ Destruction through its dealer partners, Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) said in a statement. Starting from April next year, vehicle owners will have to shell out Rs 5,000 for renewal of registration of the cars older than 15 years, which is eight times more than what they currently pay.
