Commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland's total vehicle sales, including exports, grew 51 per cent on an annual basis to 14,121 units in August, the company said on Thursday. The Hinduja Group flagship had sold a total of 9,360 vehicles in August 2021. The total medium and heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) sales were up 81 per cent year-on-year and touched 8,379 units from 4,632 units sold in August 2021, with truck volumes growing 70 per cent at 7,325 units, as against 4,297 units a year ago. The light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales volumes stood at 5,742 units during August, growing 21 per cent over 4,728 vehicles in the same month last year, it added. The domestic vehicle sales increased 58 per cent to 13,301 units in the month under review, from 8,400 units in the year-ago period, the company said.

Passenger vehicle sales in India increased 17.92 per cent to 2,81,380 units in February as compared with same month last year, auto industry body SIAM said on Wednesday. Passenger vehicle wholesales in February last year stood at 2,38,622 units. As per the latest data by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), two-wheeler dispatches to dealers also rose 10.2 per cent to 14,26,865 units, compared to 12,94,787 units in February 2020. Motorcycle sales during the last month increased 11.47 per cent to 9,10,323 units as against 8,16,679 in February 2020. Scooter sales were also up 10.9 per cent at 4,64,744 units from 4,22,168 units a year ago. Three-wheeler sales, however, declined by 33.82 per cent to 27,331 units as compared with 41,300 units in February last year. Vehicle sales across categories rose by 10.21 per cent to 17,35,584 units last month as against 15,74,764 units in the year-ago period. Tata Motors on Friday reported a 21 per cent increase in total vehicle sales in the domestic market to 53,430 units in December. The company had sold 44,254 units in the domestic market in the same month last year, Tata Motors said in a regulatory filing. Domestic passenger vehicle (PV) sales stood at 23,545 units last month as against 12,785 units in December 2019, up 84 per cent, it added. "The PV industry continued to grow robustly in Q3 FY21, owing to pent up demand, strong festive season and shift towards personal mobility," Tata Motors President, Passenger Vehicles Business Unit, Shailesh Chandra said. The company's PV business has been witnessing the strong response to its 'New Forever' range, which is being supported by a continuous ramp-up of supplies, he added. Stating that retail sales were 18 per cent higher than wholesale for the month and pipeline inventory remains thin, Chandra said, "We are continuing to debottleneck the supply chain and ramp up our output to meet
