The manufacturing licence of Noida-based pharmaceutical firm Marion Biotech was cancelled on Wednesday by Uttar Pradesh authorities, according to officials. Marion Biotech's cough syrup Dok-1 was linked with the death of 18 children in Uzbekistan. The incident which happened last December had prompted central and state drug authorities in India to launch a probe into the matter. "The firm's licence was under suspension since January after which a detailed inquiry was initiated. Now the licence of the firm has been cancelled by the Uttar Pradesh Drugs Controlling and Licensing Authority. The firm can no longer manufacture the syrup," a government official said. After Lucknow and Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh is set to get its third international cricket stadium in Varanasi and the work on the same will commence by May-June this year. The state government has purchased a land measuring 31 acres in Rajatalab area of Varanasi for the international cricket stadium, and the land will be handed over to the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by the end of this month, according to officials. BCCI's honorary secretary Jay Shah and BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla had visited Varanasi earlier this week in this regard. "The Uttar Pradesh government has identified around 31 acres of land in Ganjari village in Rajatalab tehsil (of Varanasi) for the construction of the international cricket stadium. The Uttar Pradesh electricity department employees, who have stopped work for three days since last night, on Friday claimed that their strike has hit power distribution in parts of the state and sought Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's intervention to end the atmosphere of confrontation. The employees began their strike at 10 pm on Thursday, claiming some of their demands agreed by the government in December last year have not been fulfilled by power corporations even after three months. The demands related to the selection of chairman and managing director in power companies and "pay anomalies". The government said last evening if the strike creates problems for the public, it will take action against the employees under ESMA and threatened to sack contractual workers who do not return to work. The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court on Monday held that the authorities committed several illegalities in fixing quota for appointment of 69,000 teachers in Uttar Pradesh in the Assistant Teachers Recruitment Examination (ATRE)-2019. The court has directed the state government to review the final list issued in the matter on June 1, 2020, within the next three months after fixing the reservation in proper manner. The bench also quashed the select list of 68,000 teachers issued on January 5, 2022. "The reservation limit must not exceed 50 per cent of the total seats in any circumstances," said the bench. A bench of justice Om Prakash Shukla passed the verdict disposing of as many as 117 writ petitions. Around 9.30 lakh children at the elementary level across the country are out of school with more boys than girls not enrolled, according to the Ministry of Education. The maximum number of Out of School Children (OoSC) at the elementary level are in Uttar Pradesh followed by Bihar and Gujarat. The information was shared by Union Minister of State for Education, Annapurna Devi, in a written reply in Lok Sabha. According to the data, 9,30,531 children at the elementary level are out of school including 5.02 lakh boys and 4.27 lakh girls.
