UP: ACS-Home Avnish Awasthi retires, Sanjay Prasad gets additional charge

Senior IAS officer Sanjay Prasad has been given the additional charge of the Home Department of Uttar Pradesh following the retirement of Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avnish Awasthi on Wednesday. Prasad, a 1995 batch IAS officer, is currently posted as Principal Secretary to the chief minister and also information department. Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal told PTI that Sanjay Prasad has been given additional charge of Home department. Avnish Awasthi, a 1987 batch IAS officer, retired on Wednesday after 35 years of service.

Case lodged against man for 'indecent remarks' on UP CM Yogi Adityanath

The police have lodged an FIR against a man for making indecent remarks on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, officials said on Monday. Superintendent of Police (Rural) Akhilesh Narain said a complaint was lodged by a person named Rajesh Ali who alleged that Suresh Yadav, chief of Hathwant block here, made indecent remarks and used abusive language against UP CM. The FIR was lodged at the Jasrana police station based on the complaint, the SP said. We are probing the matter and necessary legal action will be taken accordingly, the SP added.

A 32-year-old inmate lodged at the Sultanpur Jail died a day before his release, police said on Friday even as his family alleged that he was beaten up inside the prison. According to police, Irshad was lodged in the prison in a theft case 15 days ago. He was to be released on Friday but died on Thursday night. The family members of the inmate alleged that Irshad was beaten inside the jail and had injury marks on his body. They said that they are waiting for the post-mortem report. Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar Police station, Ram Ashish Upadhyay, said the exact cause of death will be ascertained after the post-mortem report. He added that police have not received any complaint from the family members of the inmate.
