Two Chinese nationals roaming around the Indo-Nepal border in Sonauli area here have been detained by the Sashastra Seema Bal, the Uttar Pradesh police said on Saturday. According to police, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans were doing routine checking along the border when they came across the foreign nationals late Friday. The foreigners were asked the reason for their visiting the area and on not getting a satisfactory answer, the jawans took them into custody. Inspector in-charge of Sonauli police station, Abhishek Singh said intelligence agencies are questioning the duo. "Both have passports of the Republic of China in the names of Zheng Yingjun (50) and Song Hui (52). Their visas to enter India have also expired. They have visited India several times in the past," he said. Singh said other agencies, including immigration, are also probing the matter.

Eleven people have been arrested by the Uttar Pradesh Police for allegedly using unfair means in the Preliminary Eligibility Test (PET) 2022 conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Service Commission (UPSSSC). While nine people have been arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police, two other have been arrested by the local police in Bijnor, according to a statement from the STF headquarters on Saturday. According to the police, the STF team has arrested three accused from Unnao, one from Amethi, two from Jaunpur, one from Meerut and two from Kanpur. An FIR has been registered against the accused under relevant sections in the respective police stations. The Uttar Pradesh Police is mulling over slapping the stringent National Security Act against the six people arrested for the rape and murder of two Dalit sisters in the state's Lakhimpur Kheri. The sisters, aged 15 and 17, were found hanging from a tree in a sugarcane field on Wednesday evening. The Uttar Pradesh Police's cyber crime wing has unearthed pan-India frauds to the tune of Rs 4,200 crore linked to criminals based in China, a senior official said on Friday. Police have tracked connection in frauds related to crypto trading, instant loan lending apps and fake job advertisements through bulk SMSes to China, UP Cyber Crime Superintendent of Police Triveni Singh said. Police had earlier this year found a link of China-based operators in cheating of crores of rupees from people across India through instant loan lending apps and part-time job offers in leading companies, he said. "We had earlier detected a scam worth around Rs 3,000 crore linked to China. But now their connection has also been established in frauds on the pretext of crypto currency trading through bogus and fake websites," Singh told PTI. Fifteen Chinese nationals, including a woman, staying without valid visas in Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar were detained on Monday by the local police, officials said. The Gautam Buddh Nagar police commissionerate had launched an intensive campaign for verification of foreigners living in the district, adjoining Delhi, in the wake of the arrest in June of a Chinese national who was staying illegally in Greater Noida. He is under investigation for suspected hawala links. "As part of the verification campaign, 15 Chinese nationals staying illegally in Gautam Buddh Nagar were detained by the Local Intelligence Unit with support of local police on Monday. They are being sent to the detention centre in Delhi and will be subsequently deported to their country," the police said in a statement.
