Engineering company Greaves Cotton on Wednesday unveiled its range of electric two-wheeler and three-wheeler electric vehicles at the ongoing Auto Expo 2023. The company at the event unveiled three two-wheelers under Ampere brand series -- Ampere Primus, Ampere NXG and a multi-utility scooter Ampere NXU which can be also used for deliveries. In the commercial three-wheeler segment, the company unveiled an electric passenger vehicle Greaves ELP, cargo EV Greaves ELC and a futuristic cargo concept Greaves Aero Vision. Electric two-wheeler sales could miss the target of 10 lakh units in fiscal 2022-23 by 20 per cent, mainly due to withholding of around Rs 1,100 crore subsidy by the government, according to industry body SMEV. In 2022, sales of electric two-wheelers stood at around 6 lakh units, with three major electric two-wheeler (E2W) makers -- Hero Electric, Ola and Okinawa -- crossing the 1 lakh annual sales mark for the first time, the Society Of Manufacturers Of Electric Vehicles (SMEV) said. These original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) dominated the E2W market, controlling over 50 per cent of the total market share, and emerged as the top players in the category. BMW Motorrad, the two wheeler division of the German luxury car maker, expects sales to grown in double digits next year as well as it remains bullish on the long term growth prospects of the country. The company, which sells a range of motorcycles in the country, is looking to cross the 7,000 unit sales mark this year. With sales volume this year till November having already crossed the 6,000 units mark, a growth of around 40 per cent as compared to same period last year, BMW Motorrad India has for the first time entered the top ten markets for the brand globally. The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp on Friday said it will increase the prices of its motorcycles and scooters by up to Rs 1,500, with effect from December 1. The price will increase up to Rs 1,500, and the exact quantum of the hike will vary by specific models and markets, the company said in a statement. "The upward revision of the prices of our motorcycles and scooters has been necessitated due to overall inflationary costs," Hero MotoCorp Chief Financial Officer Niranjan Gupta said. The company will continue to provide innovative financing solutions in order to cushion the impact on the customers, he added. "We have also put in place accelerated savings programmes, which will help us to offset any further cost impact, and drive improvement in margins," the two-wheeler major said. Moving forward, the economic indicators are favourable to a growth in demand, and the company expects industry volumes to pick up in coming quarters, it added.
