A day ahead of her appearance before the Enforcement Directorate in the excise scam case, BRS leader K Kavitha on Friday commenced a six-hour hunger strike seeking passage of the long-pending Women's Reservation Bill in the second part of the Budget session of Parliament starting March 13. New health programme 'Arogya Mahila' launched for women in Telangana

Telangana Health Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday launched a new health programme for women, named 'Arogya Mahila', on the occasion of International Women's Day. Under the programme, tests would be conducted for women every Tuesday initially in 100 health centres and medicines provided to them free of cost. The women, if necessary, would be sent to 'referral hospitals' for further medical care. Harish Rao, who launched the programme in Karimnagar, said another scheme 'Nutrition kit' would be started for the benefit of pregnant women after the Sri Rama Navami festival to be celebrated later this month. The 'Nutrition kit' would comprise several items, including ghee and protein mix powder, according to an official release. Meanwhile, State Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao and other Ministers, who attended the women's day celebrations at Thorrur in Mahabubabad district, launched distribution of Rs 750 crore of interest-free loans to women Self-Help Groups.

Aiming to position Hyderabad as the "Health-Tech Mecca" of the world, Telangana Minister for IT and Industries K T Rama Rao on Friday said the government targets to triple the life sciences sector ecosystem in the state to USD 250 billion by 2030 from the existing USD 80 billion. Speaking at the 20th Edition of BioAsia 2023, a three-day life sciences conclave which began here today, KTR said the state is home to over 1,000 life sciences companies globally, including the top 10 pharma firms, in their innovation journey. WHO to set up mRNA vaccine hub in Hyderabad: IT Minister KT Rama Rao

The World Health Organisation will be setting up mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid) vaccine hub in Telangana, Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao said on Tuesday here. mRNA is becoming a promising technology to address a growing number of infectious diseases. Speaking to reporters on various steps being taken by the state government to promote the life sciences sector, Rama Rao said Telangana has a target of making the industry worth USD 100 billion from USD 50 billion in 2021 and the workforce from the existing four lakh to eight lakh in the next five years. Telangana to spend Rs 1,000 cr on development of Kondagattu Hanuman temple

The Telangana government is ready to spend Rs 1000 crore for the development of Hanuman temple complex at Kondagattu in Jagtial district, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said on Wednesday. An official release from the CM's office said, Rao visited the shrine and held a review meeting with the officials on its redevelopment. The CM clarified that the reconstruction and development of the temple will be undertaken in accordance with the Vaishnava tradition. There is no shortage of funds and he (Rao) is ready to allocate Rs 1000 crore, the release said. The CM also suggested to the officials that a suitable place be identified to set up a Vedic school in the name of "Anjanadri". Rao along with public representatives and officials went around the temple and carried out inspection, it said.
