Telangana BJP MLA Raja Singh held for controversial religious remarks

Telangana Cong leaders meet Priyanka, renew resolve to fight against Centre

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday held a meeting with party leaders from Telangana, including state unit chief Revanth Reddy. Priyanka Gandhi said she was happy that the leaders have renewed their resolve to fight unitedly against both the state and central governments. Revanth Reddy, AICC in-charge of Telangana, Manickam Tagore and N Uttam Kumar Reddy among others attended the meeting. "Had a good meeting with leaders from Telangana today and I am happy that they have renewed their resolve to fight unitedly against both the state and central government," she said in a tweet. Telangana accuses Centre of limiting engagement in power exchanges

Telangana power utilities on Friday accused the Centre of restricting them to participate in power purchases through exchanges citing overdues. Power System Operation Corporation Ltd (POSOCO) on Thursday asked three power exchanges -- IEX, PXIL and HPX -- to restrict electricity trading by 27 discoms in 13 States, including Telangana, having outstanding dues towards gencos. Transmission Corporation of Telangana and Genco CMD D Prabhakar Rao, in a press release, said Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Power Minister Jagadish Reddy held a review meeting and directed the discoms to supply electricity to the people and consumers without any difficulties. The officials said the State could not draw 20 million units today as the Centre restricted the State power utilities from participating without any notice. About 2.25 mn children watch Attenborough's 'Gandhi' in Telangana

As many as 22.50 lakh school children in Telangana have watched Richard Attenborough's movie 'Gandhi' which is being screened by the state government as part of the celebration of 75 years of the country's independence. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had asked officials to screen the movie 'Gandhi' on the Father of the Nation to educate the present generation about the freedom struggle. The award-winning film is being screened, without charging any tickets, in 552 theatres across the state. It was shown from August 9 to 11 and is being screened from August 14 to 21. The state government has made arrangements to screen the movie for about 2.50 lakh school children every day and 22.50 lakh students have watched it till August 18, official sources said.
