SpiceJet on Tuesday said its board will meet on Friday to consider options to raise funds as well as to convert certain outstanding liabilities into equity shares of the company. The no-frills airline, which has been grappling with multiple headwinds, including legal woes, is looking to raise fresh capital through issuance of eligible securities to qualified institutional buyers. Besides, the carrier plans to issue equity shares on preferential basis consequent upon conversion of outstanding liabilities into equity shares of the company, subject to applicable regulatory approvals, according to a filing to the BSE. Both plans will be taken up by the board of directors during its meeting scheduled for February 24. Specific details about the proposals could not be immediately ascertained. A Kandla-bound SpiceJet flight from Mumbai returned to the city airport on Saturday due to a cabin "pressurisation alert," the airline has said. The aircraft has landed safely and neither passengers nor crew members have reported any discomfort, SpiceJet said in a statement. The airline, however, did not share the number of persons onboard the Bombardier Q400 aircraft. On February 18, SpiceJet Q400 aircraft was scheduled to operate the airline's flight SG-2903 (Mumbai - Kandla), the airline said in the statement. "After take-off, cabin pressurisation alert came. The pilot-in-command decided to return to Mumbai," it said. According to SpiceJet, the Mumbai Air Traffic Control was apprised of the situation and the aircraft was landed "safely" at Mumbai. The operation of the airline's flight to Tirupati from Mumbai was also affected. It has not been cancelled, the statement said, adding that only its scheduled time of departure has been revised.

SpiceJet on Monday offloaded a passenger from a Hyderabad-bound aircraft for unruly behaviour at the Delhi airport. The incident happened onboard a SpiceJet wet-leased Corendon aircraft that was scheduled to operate SG-8133 flight from Delhi to Hyderabad. "During boarding at Delhi, one passenger behaved in an unruly and inappropriate manner, harassing and causing disturbance to cabin crew. The crew informed PIC (Pilot In Command) and security staff of the same. The said passenger and a co-passenger, who were travelling together, were offloaded and handed over to the security team," the airline said in a statement. A senior official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said it is looking into the matter and will take appropriate action.

Passengers of a Bengaluru-bound SpiceJet plane had to wait for a long time at the aerobridge at Delhi airport on Tuesday, with the airline saying the flight was delayed due to weather disruption that led to incoming crew exceeding their duty time limit. The incident happened with passengers of SpiceJet flight SG 8133 from Delhi-Bengaluru. A SpiceJet spokesperson said the flight was delayed on account of weather disruption in the network and the aircraft's previous rotation. Shareholders of SpiceJet on Monday approved the re-appointment of Ajay Singh as a director of the no-frills airline. At the annual general meeting, the shareholders also gave their nod for the adoption of audited financial statements for financial year ended March 31, 2022. In a regulatory filing, the carrier said the re-appointment of Singh as a director liable to retire by rotation was cleared by the shareholders with requisite majority. Currently, Singh is the Chairman and Managing Director of the no-frills airline. Singh was originally appointed as director on November 4, 2004 and subsequently resigned on August 27, 2010. Thereafter, he was appointed as Managing Director of the company on May 21, 2015. The budget carrier is facing multiple headwinds and reported a net loss of Rs 789 crore in the June quarter due to an adverse impact of high fuel prices and rupee depreciation.
