The United Nation Security Council (UNSC) could not take any strong decision on the adaptation of a resolution on Rohingya issue due to lack of consensus among permanent members, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has said.Addressing the Parliament on Monday, Momen said that the UN bodies and other non-governmental organisations were not allowed to visit the northern Rakhine state, homeland of the displaced Muslim minorities, which is a big hurdle for creating a conducive situation for the repatriation of Rohingyas. M Venkateswara Rao, a lecturer in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district, allegedly committed suicide in his hostel room on Monday, police said.Rao, 28, joined as Mechanical Engineering lecturer in Srinivasa Institute of Engineering & Technology in Cheyyeru village in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district hardly 10 days ago.Rao, who hails from Mangalagiri town in Guntur district, committed suicide by hanging himself.The police have found a note citing love affair as the reason for suicide.A case has been registered by the police and further investigation is underway.
At least four BJP workers sustained burn injuries while attempting to burn an effigy during a protest against the alleged sexual assault of a nine-month-old girl in Subedari area of Telangana's Warangal Urban district on Monday.The party workers, led by BJP Warangal Urban President Rao Padma, had staged a protest demanding justice for the family of the victim and sought a response from the government."The protesters had brought an effigy to burn, while BJP worker Raju had brought petrol. When they tried torching the effigy, the fire spread and caused burned some of the people nearby. The BJP on Monday demonstrated outside the offices of superintendents of police in various parts of West Bengal to protest against the "worsening law and order situation" of the state. A 72-year-old woman and her 42-year-old software engineer son allegedly committed suicide due to "depression" by consuming poison at their residence in Thane district of Maharashtra, police said Monday. The incident came to light Sunday after neighbours of Meenakshi Iyer and her son Venkateshwaran Iyer complained of foul smell emanating from their flat in Mira Road locality, a police official said. When police entered the flat, they found the decomposed bodies of the duo lying on beds. The official said Venkateshwaran worked as a software engineer. Meenakshi had fractured her leg twice recently, he said, adding that police found a suicide note saved in the laptop of Venkateshwaran which stated that they were consuming poison due to depression. Former prime minister Manmohan Singh said on Monday rising inequality was a concern and the country cannot allow extreme poverty or economic disparity as it is a welfare state. The Rajasthan government has decided to implement the Centre's flagship health insurance scheme, Ayushman Bharat, by integrating it with the state's own Bhamashah insurance scheme. State Health Minister Raghu Sharma Tuesday said the Centre's scheme will be implemented in integration with the state's Bhamashah insurance scheme. Ayushman Bharat provides for cashless medical treatment worth up to Rs 5 lakh to the beneficiary families per year. Sharma said the amalgamation of the two schemes has been completed. Rajasthan is currently providing benefits to 97 Lakh families under the Bhamashah scheme and many of the eligible families under the Ayushman Bharat scheme are already covered under the Bhamasha scheme.
The Delhi's Minorities Commission has set up a five-member fact-finding committee to probe West Delhi BJP MP Parvesh Verma's claims that mosques are "mushrooming" on government land in the city. Verma recently wrote a letter to the Lt Governor Anil Baijal claiming there were around 100 such mosques located on government land and roadside and had sought action in this regard. The fact finding committee formed by Delhi Minorities Commission (DMC) will be headed by social activist Owais Sultan Khan. "Delhi Minorities Commission has set up a fact-finding committee to probe the claim of the BJP MP from West Delhi, Parvesh Verma, about mushrooming of mosques on government land in Delhi, especially in his constituency. The Delhi Commission For Women (DCW) Monday issued a notice to the Labour Department seeking details about the progress of the regulation of private placement agency bill in the Delhi Assembly. DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal also asked what other steps are being taken by the government to regulate the private placement agencies. The women's panel said in the notice that Delhi has become a hub of trafficking as well as placement agencies and stressed on their urgent regulation. The Commission said it has been following up with the Labour Department since 2015 for the passage of the bill to regulate the Private Placement Agencies but it has not happened till date, the women's panel said. In September 2018, the Delhi government had also informed the Delhi High Court that a bill for the regulation of private placement agencies was under consideration and would be introduced in the Delhi Assembly shortly. However, there appears to have been no significant progress in this matter, the panel .
A man tried to commit suicide in Vidhana Soudha (state Assembly) here on Monday, police said.The 43-year-old, identified as Revanna Kumar, tried to kill himself by inflicting wounds on his neck and hand with a sharp weapon on the third-floor washroom of the Karnataka state legislative building.The incident was seen and reported by a domestic help to the police."He has been shifted to Bowring and Lady Curzon hospital and is now out of danger. Over 30.6 lakh persons have been enrolled so far under the Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) scheme, Parliament was informed on Monday. On February 1, while presenting the Interim Budget 2019-20, then Finance Minister Piyush Goyal announced launch of the PM-SYM scheme to provide unorganised workers an assured monthly pension of Rs 3,000 after 60 years of age. The scheme, which was implemented from February 15, provides assured monthly pension of Rs 3,000, with contribution of Rs 100 per month, for workers in unorganised sector after 60 years of age, Goyal had said. In a reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Santosh Kumar Gangwar said that as on June 19, the number of beneficiaries of the scheme across various states and Union Territories (UTs) stood at 30,67,258. The Bihar Health Department has put the total number of AES casualties across 20 districts at 152. These include the 130 deaths reported at the two Muzaffarpur-based hospitals, which have been admitting AES patients from nearly half a dozen districts in its proximity.
