Lalu Yadav returns to India after kidney transplant surgery in Singapore

Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav returned to the national capital on Saturday evening after undergoing a kidney transplant surgery in Singapore in December last year. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) President was unwell and under treatment in Singapore. He arrived in Delhi Saturday evening, where he was received by daughter Misa Bharti, who is a Rajya Sabha MP. He will be staying with Misa for some days in Delhi, party sources said. Earlier, his daughter Rohini Acharya, who donated a kidney to her father, had shared an emotional post on Twitter about Lalu Yadav's return to India. Announcing his return to India, Rohini asked everyone to take care of her father. "I am fulfilling my duty as a daughter. Papa has recovered and I am sending him amidst you. Please take care of Papa," she said. Lalu Yadav, 74, was suffering from acute kidney complications and was advised a kidney transplant. Rohini came forward as a donor. Singapore to scrap Covid-19 border safety measures from Monday as cases dip

Singapore will scrap all COVID-19 border safety measures from next Monday when the country steps down its disease alert to its lowest level. This is due to the improving pandemic situation globally and the low impact of imported cases on Singapore's healthcare capacity said the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday. Singapore will also step down its disease alert to its lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic started three years ago, with face masks no longer mandatory on local public transport as well as at some healthcare and residential care settings from Monday. Nepal plane crash: Singapore's Transport Ministry to analyse black boxes

Singapore's Transport Ministry will analyse black boxes recovered from the crash site of Yeti Airlines flight 691 at the request of the investigation authorities in Nepal, officials said. The flight smashed into a gorge on its final approach to the newly opened Pokhara International Airport on January 15, killing all 72 people on board. It was the country's worst air crash in 30 years. The Transport Ministry's (MOT) Transport Safety Investigation Bureau (TSIB) will help retrieve and read the data from the plane's flight recorders, said an MOT spokesperson in a statement on Thursday. The analysis will be carried out at TSIB's flight recorder readout facility, which was set up in 2007. Nepal will send to Singapore for examination the black box of Yeti Airlines that crashed in Pokhara, killing all 72 people, including five Indians, on board, a senior official said on Wednesday. Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane, who is a joint secretary at Nepal's Tourism Ministry and also a member of the probe committee of the air crash, said that three members of the investigation panel would be flying soon to hand over the black box to Singapore's Transport Safety Investigation Bureau. India ranked second-largest market for Singapore tourism sector in 2022

India has been ranked the second-largest tourist market for Singapore in 2022 behind Indonesia, with 686,000 Indian arrivals, according to data provided by the country's tourism authority here on Tuesday. Tourists from Indonesia, India and Australia were among the top spenders in the first nine months of 2022 with a spending of 8.96 billion Singapore dollars (SGD), Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said. India was the second-largest tourist market for Singapore in 2022 with 686,000 Indian visitors. Indonesia was the largest tourist market with 1.1 million arrivals from the country. Malaysia with 591,000 tourists was in third place. Singapore's tourism receipts are estimated to reach SGD 13.8 billion to SGD 14.3 billion for 2022 - about 50 to 52 per cent of 2019 levels, said the STB. Final figures for tourism receipts will be available in the second quarter of 2023. UPI, Singapore's PayNow integration anytime soon: Official at G20 meet

The Monetary Authority of Singapore on Monday said integration of India's Unified Payment Interface (UPI) and equivalent network in Singapore, known as PayNow, will begin anytime soon, which in turn will reduce the remittance cost by 10 per cent. There will be interoperability of the two digital payment networks, allowing seamless remittances between the two countries at a highly competitive rate.
