Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday alleged that Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah is seeking a ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to hide the fact that the previous Congress government led by him had withdrawn cases against the now banned Popular Front of India (PFI). He said demanding a ban on a patriotic organisation like the RSS is really "unfortunate". "He (Siddaramaiah) has nothing to question the PFI ban. He (as CM) had withdrawn cases against PFI, now to hide it, he is asking for a ban on RSS, but is unable to say why the RSS should be banned," Bommai said in response to a question. RSS is a patriotic organisation, which works for the downtrodden, poor and orphan children, and is at the forefront when there are calamities or floods. They arouse patriotic feelings in the country, he said. "To ask for such an organisation to be banned is really unfortunate, Siddaramaiah should not have stooped to such a low level," he added. "Living life without ego" was the soul of India, he added. Countries like China, United States and Pakistan turned their attention to Sri Lanka when they saw business opportunities there, he said. "But now when Sri Lanka is in trouble, who is extending help? It is only India. Who sent water to the Maldives when it was facing a water crisis? It was India which did. The recent murder of a 19-year old receptionist in Uttarakhand allegedly by a BJP leader's son, an issue which led to protests in the northern state, was raised on Tuesday by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in his Bharat Jodo Yatra speech in which he said the incident indicates the BJP and RSS ideology of viewing women as "objects". Referring to the murder of the young woman -- Ankita Bhandari -- the Congress leader alleged, "A BJP leader who owned a hotel, his son, who ran the hotel, was forcing a young girl to become a prostitute. When she refused to become a prostitute, she was found dead in a lake." "That is the way BJP treats women of India," Gandhi, also the MP from Wayanad, alleged. "It is the most disgusting, the most shameful example of how the BJP and RSS treat women in this country. The ideology of BJP and RSS views women as objects and second class citizens.
