IMD predicts light rain over Delhi, parts of Haryana, UP today

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted light rain over parts of Delhi, Harayana and Uttar Pradesh in the next few hours.IMD, in a tweet, said, "09:40 IST; Very light to light intensity rain/drizzle would occur over and adjoining areas of isolated places of Delhi (Mundka ). Light to moderate intensity rain would occur over and adjoining areas of Yamunanagar (Haryana). Saharanpur, Gangoh, Shamli, Muzaffarnagar, Kandhla, Khatauli (U.P.) during the next 2 hours."The rain is likely to improve the air quality of the national capital which is in the "very poor" category with an overall Air Quality Index (AQI) at 368 presently.According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR), high winds and intermittent rains is expected to improve AQI significantly to the "lower end of very poor" through strong dispersion and wet deposition.As cold wave conditions prevail in northern India, New Delhi recorded 10.8 degrees Celsius at 8:30 am today.

Chennai sees heavy rainfall; IMD issues alert for Friday, Saturday

Heavy to very heavy rains pounded Chennai and the suburbs on Thursday, inundating roads and subways and three persons were killed in rain-related incidents here. Three persons (two women and a boy) died of electrocution here, Minister for Revenue and Disaster Management, KKSSR Ramachandran said. It was a repeat of scenes witnessed here last month as motorists struggled to manoeuvre their vehicles on flooded roads and subways while showers led to traffic congestion in the city and suburbs. The intense spell may turn out to be one of the heaviest witnessed in recent years, while police said three subways were closed and in view of inundation and traffic moved at a snail's pace in at least 14 arterial city thoroughfares. Greater Chennai Corporation said that over 145 pumps were used to de-clog inundated locations. Death toll from heavy flooding in Malaysia climbs to 41; 8 still missing

The death toll from heavy seasonal floods in Malaysia has risen to 41, with eight people still missing, the police said on Friday.It was previously reported that 27 people were killed in the floods.
