Oppn holds protest in Maha Vidhan Bhavan, demands Sattar's resignation

Opposition members staged a protest in the Maharashtra legislature complex here on Wednesday and reiterated their demand for Agriculture Minister Abdul Sattar's resignation while accusing him of indulging in corruption. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ajit Pawar and other legislators including Chhagan Bhujbal, Rohit Pawar and Bhaskar Jadhav raised slogans outside the House demanding the resignation of Sattar. They have been raising the demand for the minister's ouster since Monday. The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court last week issued a notice to Sattar who had ordered 'regularisation' of the possession of land reserved for public 'gairan' (grazing) in favour of a private person in the face of a civil court order. The opposition members, carrying oranges in their hands on Wednesday, also demanded bonus for paddy farmers. Nagpur, where the winter session of the state legislature is currently underway, is famous for orange cultivation.

'Kisan Garjana' rally: Farmers converge at Ramleela Ground, demand measures

Farmers have started converging at the Ramleela Ground here for the 'Kisan Garjana' rally to demand various relief measures from the government. A note issued by the organisers -- Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), a branch of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) -- said "the government will face trouble if it did not heed the farmers' demand in time". It said farmers are reaching the Ramleela Maidan from across the country in buses, tractors and motorcycles to demand remunerative prices for their crops based on the input cost. The farmers have also called for a rollback of GST on all kinds of farming activities and the permission for commercial production of genetically modified crops. They are also pushing the Centre to increase the financial support provided under the PM-Kisan scheme. Massive protest in Jodhpur for fire tragedy victims' compensation

Several MLAs, MPs and other politicians took part in a massive protest here on Sunday to demand compensation for the Bhungra cylinder blast victims from the state government. On December 8, a cylinder blast in Bhungra of Shergarh division of the district triggered a fire leaving about 50 people injured. At least 35 of those injured in the incident had succumbed by Sunday. The protesters gathered under the banner of Bhungra Victims' Sangharsh Samiti marched to the district collectorate from the MG Hospital morgue waving black flags and wearing black headbands and ribbon on arms. They submitted a memorandum to the collector addressing state Governor Kalraj Mishra. The rally was taken out after talks for victim compensation with the administration failed on Saturday. Delhi police issues traffic advisory ahead of RSS farmer body's protest

Delhi Police on Sunday issued a traffic advisory ahead of a 'Kisan Garjana' rally at Ramleela Ground here. According to the advisory, the rally will be organised by the Bhartiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), an affiliate of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Monday from 11 am to 6 pm. As per the organisers, around 50,000 to 55,000 people are likely to participate in the gathering through 700 to 800 buses, and 3,500 to 4,000 through private vehicles, it stated. The diversion points are Maharaja Ranjeet Singh Marg, Mirdard Chowk, Minto Road, Ajmeri Gate, Chaman Lal Marg, Delhi Gate, JLN Marg, roundabout Kamala Market to Hamdard Chowk, Bhavbhuti Marg and Paharganj Chowk, it said. Iranian authorities arrested one of the country's most famous actresses on charges of spreading falsehoods about nationwide protests that grip the country, state media said Saturday.
