The Indian Youth Congress on Monday launched a nationwide door-to-door postcard campaign through which it will seek a reply from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on three questions. One of the questions reads, "How much funds have been given to the BJP by Adani?" Coco Padhi, the Indian Youth Congress' national general secretary and the organisation's Delhi in-charge, said, "The campaign has been launched across the country. It will be a door-to-door campaign where we will reach out to the people... "We will then send these postcards to the prime minister." Restore fare concessions offered to senior citizens in railways: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to restore the fare concessions offered to senior citizens by the railways. In a letter to the prime minister on Saturday last, he said the Centre has a budget of Rs 45 lakh crore and it would incur a cost of Rs 1600 crore if it extends the concession to senior citizens. Terming the amount as a drop in the ocean, he said the government will not become rich by not spending the amount. By stopping the facility a message was being given to senior citizens that the government did not care for them which was against the culture of the country, he said, adding that no person, society or country can progress without the blessings of the elderly. Delhi was seeing progress in all areas due to the blessings of the elderly for whom free pilgrimage of religious places has been arranged by his government, he said. The Centre had in 2020 discontinued the concessions granted to senior citizens to discourage the movement

Kejriwal a coward, his heroism confined within assembly, says Himanta

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday slammed his Delhi counterpart Arvind Kejriwal over his comments during a rally in Guwahati, calling the AAP chief a coward whose heroism is confined within the assembly. Sarma criticised Kejriwal for not making any reference to allegations of corruption against the BJP leader, which he had reportedly made in the Delhi Assembly. He had made charges of corruption against me in the Delhi Assembly, but I cannot act on it as he is protected by regulations. I had challenged him to repeat the same allegations outside the House and then I will see him in court. But, he didn't have the courage to say anything here. He spoke a lot of anab-shanab' (rubbish), but nothing on charges against me, Sarma said at a presser. The Assam CM had on Friday threatened to file a defamation case against Kejriwal if the Aam Aadmi Party leader alleged corruption cases against him outside the assembly. The heroism of Kejriwal is confined within the assembly as

Why is PM Modi 'silent': Kapil Sibal on Bengal, Bihar communal violence

In the wake of communal violence in West Bengal and Bihar, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Sunday questioned the "silence" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the matter, and said "let not 2024 general elections be the reason" for the violence. Sibal appealed to the people of the country to put a stop to the "burning of Bengal and Bihar, and to the seeds of hatred" which, he said, can only benefit politicians and political ideologies. The ordinary man becomes a victim of this hatred, he said in a statement. "I want the prime minister (Modi) to speak up, I want the home minister (Shah) to speak up and condemn the violence. It is unfortunate that in the midst of this violence neither of them have spoken, why are they quiet," he asked. "It is my earnest appeal to all those, and it may not be about one particular party, who are responsible for this madness. The country needs to move forward away from the environment that is being created. Let not 2024 be the reason for this," the former

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and former union minister Jairam Ramesh sparred on Saturday over the government's move to send the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, 2023 to a select committee of the two Houses with the Congress leader stating that it should have been sent to the Standing Committee on Environment for scrutiny. In response to Jairam Ramesh's earlier remarks, Bhupender Yadav tweeted a list of the bills sent by Congress governments in the past to the select committees."Jairam Ramesh says referring the Forest Conservation Amendment Bill to a Joint Committee is "devaluation and denigration" of processes. BJP doing injustice with people, will lose in UP in 2024 polls: Akhilesh

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday accused the ruling BJP in Uttar Pradesh of doing injustice with the people and claimed that the party will lose in the state in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. During his visit to Kanpur, Yadav, while slamming the BJP, also said "people are sad, a big change will be seen in Lok Sabha and the BJP will lose in Uttar Pradesh." Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, however, refuted Yadav's claims and said the BJP will return to power at the Centre with a thumping majority. The Samajwadi Party (SP) president told reporters that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is doing injustice to the people and a woman and her daughter lost their lives in Kanpur Dehat due to a bulldozer. According to a statement issued by the SP here, Yadav warned that "when there will be a change in the state, action will be taken against corrupt officials of the BJP". "Everything is being taken note of," he said Rebutting Yadav's remarks, Deputy Ch

BJP seeks to take on Grand Alliance in Bihar with 'rare' social coalition

The BJP is eying a rare social coalition including 'upper' castes and a majority of backward classes in Bihar to power its bid to vanquish in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls the formidable RJD-JD(U) alliance, which had inflicted a crushing defeat on it in the 2015 assembly elections. While Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) may be the strongest party in the Bihar ruling alliance, the BJP believes that its road to success lies in the dismantlement of the support base of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal (United), which has long enjoyed the backing of a collection of non-Yadav backward castes and some Dalit communities. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will on Sunday attend programmes to mark the birth anniversary of the great Maurya emperor Ashoka. On his fourth visit to Bihar in the last seven months, Shah's programmes are seen as part of the BJP's ambitious drive to woo the numerically strong Kushwaha (Koeri) community, which believes that the emperor came from their ...

Gujarat Cong to organise more than 300 sammelans, invites Rahul Gandhi

The Gujarat Congress will organise more than 300 'sammelans' (conventions) across the state this month to highlight what it calls the failure of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, and has invited party leader Rahul Gandhi to be a part of the same, a senior party functionary said on Saturday. Talking to reporters, state Congress president Jagdish Thakor said the party plans to organise sammelans in 251 talukas, 33 districts and eight metro centres in two phases, between April 6-12 and April 15-25. Gandhi has been invited to Gujarat between April 20 and April 25 to lend his support, he said. Gandhi was last in Surat on March 23 to appear before a court, which convicted him in a criminal defamation case and sentenced him to two years' imprisonment, eventually leading to his disqualification as a member of the Lok Sabha. The protests will be carried out irrespective of whether the police grant permission, Thakor said. Denying permission for peaceful protests has become a nor

People are stunned by Gujarat HC order on PM Modi's degree: Arvind Kejriwal

People, who have the right to know about the academic qualification of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, are stunned by the Gujarat High Court's verdict, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Saturday. The Gujarat High Court on Friday quashed a seven-year-old order of the Central Information Commission (CIC) which had asked the Gujarat University to provide information on Modi's degree to Kejriwal. Allowing the Gujarat University's appeal against the CIC order, Justice Biren Vaishnav also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on Kejriwal and asked him to deposit the amount within four weeks to the Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA). Entire country is stunned by the High Court's order because there should be a freedom of seeking information and asking questions in a democracy, Kejriwal said at a press conference here. The High court's order has increased the suspicion over the prime minister's education, he charged. If the prime minister had studied from Gujarat University or

Amit Shah's Sasaram rally cancelled due to imposition of section 144

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has cancelled his tour of Sasaram in Bihar where prohibitory orders are in place following communal tension sparked off during Ram Navami festivities, state BJP chief Samrat Choudhary said on Saturday. Addressing a press conference at the party's state headquarters here, Choudhary said Shah, who will be reaching Patna on Saturday evening, will address party workers in Nawada Lok Sabha constituency on Sunday as per schedule, even as he squarely blamed the Nitish Kumar government in Bihar for the cancellation of the function at Sasaram, organised to celebrate the birth anniversary of Emperor Asoka. "It is clear that Nitish Kumar is not in control of the administration. Even Bihar Sharif, which falls in the chief minister's home district of Nalanda, is in turmoil. So are many other parts of the state," alleged Choudhary. Union Home Minister of State Nityanand Rai had approached the state government with the offer of providing additional forces as per ...
