Jaishankar woos Paraguayan companies by flagging Indian Embassy in Asuncion

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday said the establishment of a resident Indian Embassy here will spur an expansion of economic engagements between India and Paraguay, as he wooed Paraguayan companies to invest in the country. Jaishankar, who is on his first-ever official visit to South America aimed at boosting overall bilateral ties with the region, is also the first Indian Foreign Minister to visit Paraguay, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the beginning of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He also inaugurated a resident Indian Embassy in Paraguay and said its establishment will take bilateral ties to a higher level. The Indian Embassy in Paraguay began functioning from January this year. The establishment of a resident Indian Embassy will spur an expansion of our economic engagement. Papu Gmez scored in the 10th minute as Argentina beat Paraguay 1-0 and secured its place in the Copa America knockout stage. The result at the Man Garrincha stadium in Brasilia moved Argentina atop Group A with seven points from three matches. The game also gave Lionel Messi a record 147th cap for the national team, equalling the mark of retired defender Javier Mascherano. Chile, which also advanced to the quarterfinals, is second in the group with five points after the 1-1 draw with Uruguay. Paraguay has three points, followed by Uruguay (1) and Bolivia (0). Paraguay on Monday received a shipment of 1,00,000 doses of India's indigenously developed Covaxin vaccine."Paraguay receives 100,000 doses of Covaxin vaccine from India. We guarantee the continued immunization against COVID-19. Thanks to India for its support," Sputnik reported citing Paraguay Health Ministry.External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took to Twitter to announce that 'Made in India' vaccines have arrived in the south American country."Never too far for friendship. Made in India vaccines arrive in Paraguay," Jaishankar tweeted.Paraguay has reported over 2,09,000 COVID-19 cases. So far, over 4,063 people have died in the country due to the infection.India has been supplying coronavirus vaccines to countries around the world under the Vaccine Maitri initiative. New Delhi has provided vaccines to over 75 countries.According to the Ministry of External Affairs, over 638.81 lakh doses of vaccines have been provided by India to countries.
