Government-owned FCI and state procurement agencies have bought 106.88 lakh tonnes of paddy so far in the kharif marketing season for Rs 20,180 crore, an official statement said on Wednesday
State-owned FCI and state procurement agencies have bought 98.19 lakh tonnes of paddy till Monday for Rs 18,540 crore. "Paddy procurement for Kharif 2020-21 is progressing at a fast pace in the procuring states/UTs of Punjab, Haryana, UP, TN, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh, J&K and Kerala with purchase of over 98.19 lakh tonnes of paddy up to October 19 from 8.54 lakh farmers valuing Rs 18,539.86 crore at MSP (Minimum Support Price) rate of Rs 18,880 per tonne," an official statement said. Paddy Procurement during corresponding period of Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2019-20 was 80.20 lakh tonnes. Procurement in the current season exceeds 22.43 per cent than the previous season, it added. In the procuring States, purchase of 32,12,439 MT of paddy has taken place up to October 9 from over 2.83 lakh farmers with an MSP outflow of Rs 6,065.09 crore
As per the Chief Minister's Office, It was also decided that the Paddy would be purchased for any number of days
State seeks funds for minimum support price it will pay to farmers, guarantees interest on loan.
Centre on Tuesday said 16,420 tonnes of paddy worth Rs 31 crore has been procured at MSP in the last 72 hours from farmers in Punjab and Haryana, while procurement has just commenced in other states

The BJD president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Tuesday attended a sit-in of his party here, demanding increase in minimum support price for paddy and slamming the Modi government for not keeping its promises. He charged that despite repeated requests to the Centre to raise the minimum support price (MSP) of paddy to 2,930 per quintal, they were ignored. "The BJP came to power with assurance of increasing the minimum support price of food grain as per the Swaminathan formula. I have gone to the Centre many times with this demand, but it has been ignored. It was promised by the BJP in 2014, but they have forgotten their promise after coming to power," he said.
