Amitabh Kant to lead panel to examine stalled real estate projects

The Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry has set up a 14-member committee headed by former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant to examine issues related to stalled real estate projects and recommend various ways for their completion. According to an order issued by the ministry on March 31, the committee will submit its report within six months from the date of its first meeting. The 14-member panel will deliberate on the issues of legacy stalled projects and suggest ways to complete and hand over these projects to homebuyers in a time-bound manner, the order states. The Central Advisory Council chaired by Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had decided on forming such a committee about a year ago. The committee comprises top central and state government officials, including the secretary in the department of financial services in the Union Ministry of Finance, the principal secretary of the housing and urban planning department of Uttar Pradesh and the chairper

Budget 2023 focuses on promoting growth with inclusion: NITI Aayog CEO

NITI Aayog CEO Parameswaran Iyer on Friday described the Budget 2023-24 as 'very comprehensive and balanced' which will promote growth with inclusion. He also observed that the Budget continues all the reforms and other social welfare programmes undertaken by the government over the past few years. Iyer further said the Budget has something for all, from the bottom, right up to industry to trade. "This is a Budget which focuses on growth, with inclusion. It's very balanced, it carries on from all the reforms and other social welfare programmes which the government has undertaken over the past few years," he told PTI in an interview. Iyer noted that the Budget focuses on infrastructure investment, social sector, and also on reaching out to the poor and marginalised section of society. Urbanisation set to be key with 50% population in cities by 2047: NITI CEO

NITI Aayog CEO Parameswaran Iyer on Thursday said that urbanisation is going to be the key as 50 per cent of India's population will live in urban areas by 2047. Addressing an event organised by industry body FICCI, Iyer said many states have done wonderful work in solid waste management. "Urbanisation is going to be the key. By 2047, 50 per cent of the population will live in urban areas, if you don't have basic services in urban areas, then it is going to be a big challenge," he noted. He said the circular economy is now also becoming increasingly important. Replying to a question on issues of cleanliness of India's tourist destinations, Iyer said," If you want to promote tourism in India aggressively, you better have clean places around, you better have better behaviour by tourists and by the locals." Food processing sector critical for economy, job creation: Niti Aayog CEO

Niti Aayog CEO Parameswaran Iyer on Friday said the food processing sector is critical for the Indian economy as well as job creation and stressed on ramping up production and exports of processed items. Addressing a CII seminar here, Iyer said there is a need to encourage the MSME sector to enter the food processing sector, which he described as a very important sector for the health of the economy and people. Green mobility to play key role in India's decarbonisation: NITI CEO Iyer

Green mobility is going to play a major role in decarbonisation of India's transport sector, NITI Aayog CEO Parameswaran Iyer said on Wednesday. Iyer, while addressing an event organised by the 'Shoonya Forum', noted that the role of financing is critical for scaling of electric mobility in India. He also stressed on the need of finding ways to reduce risks associated with financing of electric vehicles. Pointing out that the rural India is urbanising rapidly, the NITI Aayog CEO said there is a need to push electric vehicles in smaller cities also. Panel approves 32 beneficiaries under PLI for large-scale electronics mfg

An empowered committee headed by NITI Aayog CEO on Friday approved 32 beneficiaries under the production linked incentive scheme for large scale electronics manufacturing, including 10 for mobile manufacturing, the Aayog said. The Aayog in a tweet said the Parameswaran Iyer-headed committee approved the first incentive for mobile manufacturing under the PLI scheme for large scale electronics manufacturing. This is the first-ever disbursement under any PLI scheme, it added. "32 beneficiaries were approved under the #PLIscheme for Large-Scale Electronics Manufacturing, of which 10 (5 global and 5 domestic companies) were approved for mobile manufacturing," NITI Aayog said. The government has already rolled out the scheme with an outlay of about Rs 2 lakh crore for as many as 14 sectors, including automobiles and auto components, white goods, pharma, textiles, advance chemistry cell and speciality steel.
