Neelachal Ispat restarts ops, aims at 3,500 tonnes hot metal output per day

Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL) has resumed its blast furnace operations at Kalinganagar (Odisha) after completing capital repair work.NINL, a steel PSU jointly promoted by MMTC Ltd and two Odisha government PSUs- Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha Ltd (Ipicol), aims to operate the blast furnace at 100 per cent capacity, instead of 50-55 per cent before capital repair. The steel plant has set a daily production target of 3500 tonnes per day.The public sector steel maker also had immediate plans to restart its Steel Melting Shop (SMS) to produce steel billets."Along with the production of pig iron, with the improved hot metal production, NINL plans to resume steel billet production after restarting the steel melting shop in full capacity which will impact the company's bottom line", said S S Mohanty, vice chairman & managing director, NINL."With the restarting of SMS, NINL will get further boost to its turnaround plan ...

Panel recommends Stage-I forest clearance for NINL mines

The Forest Advisory Committee of the Union ministry of environment, forest & climate change has recommended for grant of Stage-I forest clearance of the captive mines of Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NINL). The captive iron ore mines of NINL is situated at Koira in the districts of Sundergarh and Keonjhar.Earlier, the mining lease of NINL was executed on January 11, 2017 after obtaining necessary approval from the Odisha government.The mining lease of NINL, with 102 million tonnes reserves, is spread over in 874 hectares. In November, 2016, the ministry had granted the environment clearance with proposed production capacity of two million tonnes per annum (mtpa).Subsequently, NINL will comply with the stipulations to obtain final (Forest Stage-II) clearance following which the company would commence mining operations with capacity of two million ton per annum. The availability of iron ore to its own steel plant would enhance the financial position of NINL and ensure further expansion
