People of J&K have to unite to fight attack on dignity: Mehbooba Mufti

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said people of Jammu and Kashmir will have to unite to fight back the attack on their dignity and identity. People from all walks of life, be it Gujjar, Pahari, Kashmiri, youth, women," Mehbooba said at a party function here. The former chief minister said Jammu and Kashmir was facing many challenges post abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution including attempts at disempowerment of the people. "We have many challenges. Post abrogation of Article 370, the situation is such that laws are being brought here with the aim of ending the land (holding of locals). What is the purpose of removing stamp duty on land deals? We have to understand these things," she said. Mehbooba said many government employees were being on the allegations of having terror links. Minus Congress, no third front can fight BJP: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti

Any political alliance or third front without the Congress cannot fight the BJP, J&K Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti said on Tuesday, accusing the saffron party of "shaking the basic foundations of the country by its divisive policies. She said the assembly elections are part of the democratic process and holding it in Jammu and Kashmir is not a favour to its people. Without the Congress, no alliance or third front can succeed in defeating the BJP. The Congress has played a pivotal role in building this nation over the past 70 years and there is no alternative to the Congress in the country, she said, winding up her five-day tour of Jammu province. Reacting to the reports about Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's bids to forge an anti-BJP front ahead of the 2024 general elections, Mehbooba said what the Congress and other governments build over the past seven decades is being sold by the BJP which needs to be dislodged in the interest of the ...

Mehbooba Mufti targets Centre over reports of land transfer to Army

PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday claimed allocation of huge tracts of land to the armed forces in tourist areas of Jammu and Kashmir confirmed the intention of the Centre to "convert Jammu & Kashmir into a military garrison". The former chief minister was reacting to reports in a section of the media about 50 hectares of land being transferred to the Army under the Strategic Areas Act in Gulmarg and Sonamarg areas of Kashmir. "Allocating thousands of kanals to armed forces that too in tourist areas confirms GOIs intention to convert J&K into a military garrison. Mehbooba Mufti, Omar Abdullah slam changes in J&K land use policy

Former chief ministers Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah Friday lashed out at the Jammu and Kashmir administration for changes in the land use laws, claiming the new policy would adversely impact the people of the Union Territory. Mehbooba Mufti, the PDP president, alleged the new laws enabling conversion of agricultural land to nonagricultural purposes reveals designs to engineer demographic change in Jammu and Kashmir. The development agenda is a ruse. Latest regulation doesn't even require the 15 yr domicile certificate as a prerequisite, she tweeted. She was reacting to the government's change in land use laws that allows the use of agricultural land for non-agricultural purposes. "After depriving locals of their rightful share of govt jobs, such abrupt policy decisions that pave the way for outsiders to buy land in J&K are taken only to further disempower locals," she said.
