BJP deployed 17 Union ministers to fight 'aam aadmi' in MCD, says Kejriwal

Ahead of the December 4 municipal polls, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday claimed the BJP has deployed 17 Union ministers to fight an 'aam aadmi' like him and said this was done to cover up the party's "inefficiency" during its tenure in the civic body. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls are being seen as a high stakes contest with the Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress eyeing to wrest it from the BJP which ruled it for 15 years. The AAP will get rid of corruption from the MCD in just three to four months, if voted to power and "mark my words, you will not need to pay an extra penny to get your work done in the MCD", asserted Kejriwal, who led a roadshow from Malka Ganj Chowk near Kamla Nagar to Ghanta Ghar Chowk. People gathered in large numbers and the stretch was dotted with blue, yellow and white as they danced and sang to the beats of drums while waving AAP flags. Kejriwal assured that all MCD employees will get their salary in the

"We will leave it to the people to decide who they want to vote for... I am certain the the AAP will win big this time in the MCD and will go on to get at least 230 out

'AAP will solve Delhi's garbage problem in 5 years if voted to MCD'

AAP Delhi convener and minister Gopal Rai Friday asserted his party will solve the city's garbage management problem within five years, if voted to power in the MCD, saying the BJP failed in its 15-year-tenure in the civic body. The party released 'Kejriwal's 10 guarantees' for the December 4 MCD polls earlier this month with the promise to clear the three landfill sites and address the problem of garbage mismanagement in the capital. In an interview to PTI, Rai said, "It is not just AAP but the people of Delhi who have been raising this issue," when asked why is the party focussing on the issue of garbage menace. AAP's senior leader Atishi had earlier told PTI that the party will rope in international experts to find solutions to reducing the size of the three landfill sites. Rai concurred with her and said there are several countries that came up with technological solutions to garbage mismanagement. Shaheen Bagh residents accuse MCD of discrimination, say garbage mgt poor

Residents of two Delhi neighbourhoods who recently witnessed bulldozers rumbling down their colonies have alleged the municipal corporation had been off the mark in its performance when it comes to garbage management, with many complaining that the anti-encroachment drive selectively targeted a particular community. The allegations come ahead of elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on December 4. "The MCD has been running an agenda to disturb the people of Shaheen Bagh," Sohail, a 52-year-old store owner at Shaheen Bagh market told PTI, referring to the South Delhi Municipal Corporation's anti-encroachment drive in May when bulldozers rolled into the neighbourhood with police cover before returning without conducting the exercise. Shaheen Bagh had been the epicentre of the anti-CAA/NRC movement from late 2019 to early 2020. Sohail claimed that the civic body had failed in its primary job of keeping the area clean and resorted to "harassing residents". Bir Pal, ano

MCD polls: Don't vote for those who stop welfare work, Kejriwal tells Delhi

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday urged people not to vote for those in the upcoming municipal polls who want to stop the development and welfare work in the national capital. Addressing a public meeting in Paharganj here, he said though his government improved schools and hospitals, it could not do much on the sanitation front as the responsibility lies with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Kejriwal was accompanied by his deputy Manish Sisodia. "Do not vote for those who want to stop the development and welfare work in Delhi," Kejriwal said in an apparent reference to the BJP. "During our tenure, we improved schools and hospitals, provided free electricity and water besides installing CCTVs and building mohalla clinics.
