Driven by strong demand for its sports utility vehicles, Mahindra & Mahindra on Monday reported the highest ever monthly wholesales of 64,486 vehicles in September, a two-fold jump as compared with the year-ago period. The Mumbai-based auto major had dispatched total 28,112 passenger and commercial vehicles in domestic and international markets in September 2021. Last month, the company posted its highest ever monthly sales of sports utility vehicles (SUV) at 34,262 units, a two-fold jump as compared with 12,863 units in September 2021. In an interaction with PTI, Mahindra & Mahindra President (Automotive Division) Veejay Nakra said, September turned out to be a record month for the company in terms of overall volumes as well as the SUV dispatches. He noted that the overall popularity of SUVs along with robust demand for the company's latest products led to the record dispatches for the automaker last month. Mahindra & Mahindra(M&M) Ltd on Tuesday said it will acquire an additional 17.41 per cent stake in Swaraj Engines Ltd from Kirloskar Industries Ltd (KIL) for Rs 296 crore. The acquisition will result in increasing the company's stake in Swaraj Engines Ltd (SEL) to 52.13 per cent from 34.72 per cent, M&M said in a regulatory filing. The company proposes to acquire 21,14,349 equity shares constituting 17.41 per cent of the paid up equity share capital of SEL from KIL at a price of Rs 1,400 per share, it said. Consequently, SEL, which is currently an associate of the company, would become a subsidiary of M&M, the filing said. Based in Mohali, Punjab, SEL is in the business of manufacturing of diesel engines and its components. It was promoted in 1985 by erstwhile Punjab Tractors Ltd, which has since merged with M&M, and the then Kirloskar Oil Engines Ltd (now KIL). It had a total revenue from operations of Rs 1,138.15 crore for the year ended March 31, 2022, it said.

Mahindra & Mahindra is lining up new products and investments while firming up production plans as it remains "very optimistic" about gradual evolution of electric vehicle penetration in the country over the next few years. According to a senior company official, the Mumbai-based automajor expects transition towards electric mobility to happen step wise with fleet and sports utility segments expected to lead the transformation in the domestic market. "Our internal research tells us that 25 per cent of the existing SUV buyers would like to consider an electric SUV as their next purchase. Mahindra & Mahindra on Thursday reported an 87 per cent increase in domestic passenger vehicles sales at 29,852 units in August. The company had sold 15,973 units in the same month last year, M&M said in a regulatory filing. Sales of cars and vans were at 336 units in the month under review, up from 187 units in the year-ago month. In the commercial vehicles segment, the company said it sold 21,492 vehicles in August 2022, as against 8,814 units in the same month last year. M&M President, Automotive Division Veejay Nakra said the demand across the company's portfolio remained strong and new launches such as Scorpio-N, Scorpio Classic and new Bolero MaXX Pik-up also helped in driving growth. "The supply chain situation continues to remain dynamic for select product lines and we are taking appropriate actions to minimize impact," he added.
