Maharashtra on Thursday reported 2,203 new coronavirus positive cases and three fatalities, while its active caseload is 13,665, the state health department said. Jumbo Covid Centers or field hospitals in Mumbai will be closed in phases as the number of coronavirus infections has decreased, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said on Wednesday. After the first phase of the pandemic, three jumbo care centres had been closed while the rest continued to function. The Somaiya jumbo centre in Sion area will be kept ready in case there is fresh necessity, the BMC said in a release. Maharashtra on Wednesday reported 2,138 new coronavirus infections and eight pandemic-related deaths, the state health department said. The tally of COVID-19 cases in the state rose to 80,39,319 and death toll increased to 1,48,088. The state now has 13,943 active COVID-19 cases. As many as 93 new cases of coronavirus have been detected in Maharashtra's Thane district, taking the tally to 7,33,636, a health official said on Wednesday. With the addition of the latest cases on Tuesday, the district currently has 895 active COVID-19 cases, he said. No death was reported on Tuesday and the toll in the district stood at 11,927. The recovery count has reached 7,21,474, the official added.
