Allahabad HC pulls up state govt for lapses in Lucknow hotel fire case

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday pulled up the state government for alleged lapses in regulation of development and housing authorities, in connection with a PIL on a fire incident at a Lucknow hotel. The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court expressed dissatisfaction as the state's lawyer could not place proper replies to its queries in connection with the PIL. The court had taken suo motu cognisance of the fire at the Levana Suites hotel in the posh Hazratganj area in the city earlier this month in which four guests were killed and several injured. A bench of justices D K Upadhyay and Saurabh Srivastava was hearing the PIL. On a previous hearing, the bench had sought a detailed response from Lucknow Development Authority vice-chairman Indramani Tripathi and the chief fire officer. 13 killed as wall collapsed in UP amid heavy rain; financial aid announced

Heavy rains brought down walls in parts of Uttar Pradesh on Friday, killing 13 people including nine labourers who were buried alive under the debris in the state capital. The state government has announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased. In Lucknow, an under-construction boundary wall of an Army enclave collapsed following overnight rains, leaving nine labourers dead and one injured, police said. "Some labourers were living in huts outside an Army enclave in the Dilkusha area. Owing to heavy overnight rains, the boundary wall of the Army enclave collapsed," Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Piyush Mordia told PTI. "We reached the spot around 3 am. Nine bodies were pulled out from the debris. One person was rescued alive," he said. Nine labourers dead as wall collapses following heavy rains in Lucknow

An under-construction boundary wall of an Army enclave collapsed here following heavy overnight rains, leaving nine labourers dead and another injured, police said on Friday. One person was pulled out alive from the debris, they said. "Some labourers were living in huts outside an Army enclave in Dilkusha area. Owing to heavy overnight rains, the boundary wall of the Army enclave collapsed," Joint Commissioner of Police, (Law and Order), Piyush Mordia told PTI. "We reached the spot around 3 am. Nine bodies were pulled out from the debris. One person was rescued alive," he said. District Magistrate Suryapal Gangwar said the under-construction wall collapsed following heavy rains. SP national convention at Lucknow on Sept 29, party president to be elected

The Samajwadi Party (SP) will hold its national convention at Lucknow on September 29 during which its president will be elected, and the party's strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls discussed. The party will hold its state convention a day before where its state president will be elected. Sitting SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said in a statement the BJP has "created political and economic crises and has played with the democratic system" of the country. The convention will discuss how to effectively deal with these issues, he said. "There will also be an in-depth discussion on the party's strategy in the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024. In these conventions, the election of national and state presidents of the SP will also be held," he said. Lucknow hotel tragedy: UP CM Adityanath orders action against officials

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered action against 19 current and former officials, taking congnisance of a probe report into the death of four people in a fire tragedy at a hotel here. The 19 people are accused of irregularities and negligence in the report submitted by a high-level inquiry committee set up by the state government to probe into the tragedy that took place in the Hazratganj area on Monday. A spokesperson said the CM gave the instructions after receiving the investigation report of Lucknow Commissioner of Police SB Shiradkar and Divisional Commissioner Roshan Jacob. The spokesman said departmental action, including suspension, will be taken against officials of the Departments of Home, Energy, Appointment and Personnel, Housing and Urban Planning and Excise. Four people, including two women, died and at least 10 were injured after a fire broke out in a four-floor hotel in the city's commercial centre Hazratganj Monday morning, police said. Rescue teams were inspecting the premises of the Levana Suites on Madan Mohan Malviya Marg in Hazratganj to check if someone had been trapped, officials said. Initially, 10 people were rushed to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee civil hospital. Of these, two were declared dead and seven are undergoing treatment. One of the injured was released, they said. Officials said two more people were later rushed to the civil hospital, and were declared dead, taking the toll to four. "Two more people who were found in a serious condition during room to room search of the hotel were rushed to the civil hospital.
