Govt introduces J&K Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2021 in Lok Sabha

A bill to replace an ordinance to merge the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) cadre of civil services officers with the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Saturday. Introducing 'The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2021', Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy said the government was working to take Jammu and Kashmir on the path to development. He said around 170 central laws are being implemented in Jammu and Kashmir after abrogation of Article 370 of the Constitution that gave a special status to the erstwhile state. The government is implementing different development projects and schemes in Jammu and Kashmir, he added. "I request the members to pass the bill," he added. Raising objections on the bill, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury asked "what was the need to bring an ordinance for this?". FM Nirmala Sitharaman to reply on Budget discussion in Lok Sabha today

Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will reply to the discussion on the Union Budget in Lok Sabha on Saturday at 10 am.Saturday will also mark the end of the first part of the Budget session of the Parliament.Sitaraman, while replying to the discussion on the Union Budget in Rajya Sabha on Friday, slammed the Opposition and accused them of constantly alleging a false narrative that the government only worked for cronies and said several of the Centre's schemes were for the poor.She reminded members of the Upper House of several schemes that have been implemented for the poorer sections of the country, like the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Saubhagya Yojana.She also said the Union Budget 2021-22 is the instrument through which Aatmanirbhar Bharat is to be attained and asserted that the government is also looking at "long term sustainable growth".Finance Minister had presented the Union Budget 2021-22 in the Parliament on February 1.

Don't read 41% share for states from divisible tax pool as 'reduction': FM

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday said that fixing 41 per cent as share of states from the divisible pool of taxes should not be seen as a "reduction" but was a result of one state becoming two Union territories. Her remarks came in response to a query in Lok Sabha about the allocation by NCP member Supriya Sule. States' share coming down to 41 per cent from 42 per cent should not be read as a reduction, the minister said. "42 per cent was the devolution formula based on the Finance Commission's recommendations as states' share but when there is one less state, which has become a Union territory... to that extent that one per cent was brought down," she said during an intervention on Budget discussion. It is because that portion has to be added to Union territories to which the Centre distributes, she added Jammu & Kashmir has been converted into Union territories of J&K and Ladakh. The government has decided to close two pharma public sector undertakings and disinvest the other three, Parliament was informed on Tuesday. "The Department of Pharmaceuticals has five public sector undertakings (PSUs). Out of the five PSUs, the government has taken a decision to close two pharma PSUs, namely Indian Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd (IDPL) and Rajasthan Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd (RDPL)," Minister ofChemicals and Fertilisers D V Sadananda Gowda said in response to a question in the Lok Sabha. The government has also decided to strategically disinvestthe other three -- Hindustan Antibiotics Ltd (HAL), Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd (BCPL), and Karnataka Antibiotics & Pharmaceutical Ltd (KAPL), he added.
