WardWizard lines up Rs 650 crore investment to set up Li-ion plants

Electric two-wheeler maker WardWizard Innovations and Mobility is lining up close to Rs 650 crore investment for the manufacturing of Li-ion advance cells and related infrastructure, according to a top company executive. The Gujarat-based company, which sells electric two-wheelers under the Joy brand, plans to come up with an R&D centre and an assembly plant to set up the 1GWh cell production plant at its electric vehicle ancillary cluster in Vadodara. The company has already tied up with Singapore-based renewable energy management consulting firm Sunkonnect to do a feasibility study and identification of the potential partner for production processes. In an interaction with PTI, WardWizard Innovations and Mobility Managing Director Yatin Gupte said the company plans to invest around Rs 600-650 crore to come up with the required infrastructure over the next 18 months. "The likely investment for setting up the R&D Lab and the assembly plant would cost between Rs 75-125 crore. ..

Simple Energy inks pact with US-based C4V for cell manufacturing in India

Electric vehicle maker Simple Energy has inked an initial pact with the US-based battery technology firm C4V (Charge CCCV) for cell manufacturing in India, the company said on Wednesday. The Bengaluru-based energy startup had launched its first e-scooter Simple One mid-August last year. It has, however, not yet commenced the deliveries of its maiden offering. Lithium-ion battery cells are the central unit of any electric vehicle (EV). Simple Energy is leading the domestic EV industry by vertically integrating the entire value chain. As part of this, the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with C4V for setting up a Lithium-ion cell manufacturing ecosystem in India, it said. In addition to the build-in India initiative, this strategic partnership utilizes cells with industry-leading safety, higher energy density than LFP (Lithium Ferro Phosphate) batteries, faster charging, and longer life cycle based on C4V's patented technology, Simple Energy said. Exide Industries may foray into lithium-ion battery manufacturing

The country's largest lead acid battery maker, Exide Industries Ltd, on Tuesday said it is evaluating foray into manufacturing Advance Cell Chemistry batteries, commonly referred to as lithium-ion batteries. To take a final call, the company is waiting for the Productivity Linked Incentive (PLI) details to come. The Centre recently approved a PLI scheme on such batteries. The scheme outlay of Rs 18,100 crore is intended to establish 50 Giga Watt Hour (GWh) of advanced cell chemistry and 5 GWh of niche advanced cell chemistry.
