EPFO adds 1.8 mn subscribers in July, posts 24% YoY rise, shows data

Retirement fund body EPFO added 18.23 lakh new subscribers in July 2022, registering a 24.48 per cent rise as compared to the year-ago period, according to official data. The provisional payroll data of Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) released on Tuesday highlighted that of the total new members added in July, around 10.58 lakh members have come under the social security cover of EPFO for the first time, a labour ministry statement said. The data of new members joining EPFO has shown a growing trend since April 2022, it said. Out of 10.58 lakh new members added, approximately 57.69 per cent are in the age group of 18-25 years. This shows that first-time job seekers are joining the organised sector workforce in large numbers following their education and new jobs in the organised sector are largely going to the youth of the country. PM to address conference of labour ministers of all states, UTs on Aug 25

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Thursday address a national conference of labour ministers of all states and union territories, his office said. The conference is being convened in the spirit of cooperative federalism to discuss various significant labour-related issues, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said in a statement on Tuesday. Prime Minister Modi will address the national conference of labour ministers of all states and union territories on August 25 at 4:30 pm via video conferencing, it said. The two-day conference is being organised by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment on August 25-26 at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh. The conference will help create further synergy amongst the Centre and state governments in formulating better policies and ensuring effective implementation of schemes for the welfare of workers, the statement said. At least 24 states/UTs pre-publish draft rules on 4 codes: Labour Min

Labour reforms are progressing as at least 24 states have pre-published draft rules for four labour codes on wages, social security, industrial relations and occupation safety, Parliament was informed on Monday. As many as 31 states/UTs have pre-published the draft rules under the Code on Wages, 26 states/UTs under Industrial Relations Code, 25 states/UTs under Code on Social Security, and 24 states/UTs under Occupational Safety Health & Working Conditions (OSH) Code, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Rameshwar Teli said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha. 'Labour' as a subject is in the Concurrent List of the Constitution of India and under the Codes, the power to make rules has been entrusted to the central government as well as state governments. As a step towards implementation of the four Labour Codes, the central government has pre-published the draft rules, inviting comments of all stakeholders, he stated. Over 10 crore unorganised workers registered on e-SHRAM portal: Ministry

Over 10 crore unorganised workers have been registered on the e-SHRAM portal as on Wednesday, the Ministry of Labour and Employment informed.The portal was created by the Directorate of Labour welfare on August 26 this year to register unorganised workers such as migrant workers, construction workers, gig workers, platform workers, domestic workers, street vendors etc, who are seeded to AADHAR.As per a press release of the ministry, West Bengal leads the states of maximum registration followed by Uttar Pradesh and Odisha."e-SHRAM is the reflection of the commitment of Prime Minister who believes in 'Sabka saat sabka vikas or sabka vishwas'," it read.In future, as per the ministry, more than 38 crores labourers will be benefitted from this social security scheme.

New Wage Rate Index series released; base year revised to 2016 from 1963-65

Ministry of Labour on Wednesday released a new series of Wage Rate Index (WRI) with base year 2016, being compiled and maintained by the Labour Bureau, an attached office of the ministry. The new series of WRI with base 2016=100 will replace the old series with base 1963-65, a labour ministry statement said. The government periodically revises the base year for major economic indicators to reflect the changes in the economy and to capture the wage pattern of workers, it said. Thus, as per the recommendations of International Labour Organization, National Statistical Commission etc, the base year of WRI numbers has been revised from 1963-65 to 2016 by the Labour Bureau to enhance the coverage and to make index more representative.
