About 110 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy is estimated to be procured at the minimum support price (MSP) in the ongoing kharif marketing season from farmers in Chhattisgarh, a government official said on Monday. Last year, around 98 lakh MT of paddy was purchased from cultivators in the state. The paddy procurement drive will begin on November 1, Chhattisgarh's statehood day, and conclude on January 31 next year. All preparations are in full swing to start purchase of paddy and so far over 25 lakh farmers have registered, 95,000 of them new registrations, themselves to sell their produce at designated centres, he said. Registrations of farmers who were enrolled last year were carry forward this year, the official added. About 110 lakh metric tonnes of paddy is estimated to be procured in this kharif marketing season for which 5.50 lakh bundles of jute gunny bags will be required, he said. Kharif procurement to begin from Oct 1, Khattar holds high-level meeting

As procurement of various Kharif crops including paddy will begin in Haryana from October 1, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday evening chaired a high-level meeting. In the meeting, the Chief Minister was apprised by the officials that for this season government aims to procure around 55 lakh metric tonne of paddy. The procurement of Kharif crops will be done at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) as announced by the Government of India, said Khattar. The MSP of Rs 2,040 per quintal has been fixed for Paddy (common), Rs 2,060 per quintal for paddy (Grade-A), and Rs 2,350 per quintal for bajra. During the Kharif marketing season 2022-23, crops like paddy, bajra, maize, moong, sunflower, groundnut, til, arhar and urad, etc. will be procured. Incessant rainfall in Punjab may damage Kharif crops, say experts

Incessant rain at many places in Punjab may cause damage to Kharif crops, especially paddy and cotton, farm experts said on Saturday. Besides delaying harvesting of crops, the untimely rain will not only affect the yield but also quality of crop, they said. Rain lashed parts of Punjab and Haryana, leading to a dip in the mercury by a few notches. States peg kharif rice procurement at last year level despite output worry

The state governments have pegged the rice procurement target for the 2022 Kharif marketing season at around 506 lakh tonnes, the same as the last year's level, notwithstanding the likely marginal drop in the output, according to sources. Area sown to paddy declined by 5.99 per cent to 367.55 lakh hectare so far in the ongoing kharif season as a shortfall in rains has led to less coverage in some states, according to the agriculture ministry data released on Friday. Paddy was sown in 390.99 lakh hectare in the year-ago period, the data showed. It is the main kharif crop, sowing of which begins with the onset of the southwest monsoon from June and harvesting from October onwards.
