Preparing for the Assembly polls in about five months, Karnataka BJP's 'Jana Sankalpa Yatre' led by Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and party strongman and parliamentary board member B S Yeduyurappa will resume here on Monday. The Yatre will be covering Udupi, and Kitturu-Karnataka districts of Gadag, Haveri, and Belagavi, during the next three days. The BJP had launched Jan Sankalpa Yatra from Raichur last month. The Karnataka government will introduce a law to stop the confiscation or auction of farmers' property over any delay or non-payment of loan taken for agricultural purposes, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Saturday. Speaking at the concluding session of Krishi Mela and distribution of awards to farmers at the Gandhi Krishi Vignan Kendra (GKVK) campus here, he said in case of non-payment of agricultural loan, farmers must be given more time for repayment instead of confiscating or auctioning their property. Necessary instructions have already been given to the Department of Cooperation and other departments. As a result the departments are responding to the plight of farmers, he said. Noting that economic growth is fully dependent on the agricultural sector, Bommai said agricultural universities must take up research regarding agro-economics and give suggestions to the government. Karnataka Medium and Large Industries Minister Murugesh Nirani on Saturday said proposals for investment to the tune of Rs 1.57 lakh crore were announced during the Global Investors' Meet (GIM) here. The 3-day GIM concluded on Friday. Briefing reporters, the Minister said the GIM rose beyond expectations as plans for a total investment of Rs 9.82 lakh crore were made. The Karnataka government on Thursday signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 50 companies approving their investment proposals worth Rs 5.64 lakh crore on the first day of the Global Investors' Meet in Bengaluru. The highest investment proposal in terms of capital outlay came in the green hydrogen and renewable energy sectors. According to the organisers of the three-day investors summit, the state signed MoUs with seven companies in the area of green hydrogen and its derivatives to the tune of Rs 2.91 lakh crore, while it entered into an agreement with nine companies in the area of renewable energy to the tune of Rs 1.29 lakh crore. Allowing a batch of five petitions filed by multiple property owners, the HC has held the state government's amendment to Section 34 of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Karnataka) Rules, as invalid in respect of the land acquisition process for these land owners. By a notification dated May 16, 2020, the state had exempted social impact assessment (SIA) and determination in relation to the proposed acquisition of land for State Highway-136, including the lands of the petitioners before the HC and other land owners.
