The Jharkhand government on Friday presented a Rs 1.16 lakh crore budget for the 2023-24 fiscal, announcing a variety of schemes for all-round development of the state, including programmes for farmers, students and the MSME sector. The budgetary estimates for the financial year starting April were 15 per cent higher than the previous year. Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon, while tabling the budget in the assembly, said it was formulated after consultation with all stakeholders concerned, and that it will meet aspirations of the poor and the downtrodden. AJSU leads by 21,960 votes after 9th round of counting in Ramgarh bypoll

AJSU party candidate Sunita Choudhary was leading by 21,960 votes over her nearest rival Bajrang Mahto of the Congress after the ninth round of counting in the Ramgarh by-election, an official said on Thursday. The AJSU party, which has tied up with the BJP for the bypoll, got 1,04,442 votes while the Congress, an ally of the ruling JMM-led coalition, got 82,482 after the completion of the ninth round of counting, the official said. Counting of votes for the Ramgarh assembly by-election began at 8 am at Ramgarh college, some 40 km from the state capital Ranchi, said Ramgarh SDO cum Returning officer Md Javed Hussain. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday blamed the opposition BJP for the state's backwardness, alleging that the party has converted it into a grazing ground in the past 20 years. In his reply to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor's address, he also alleged that the saffron party that bolstered development in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat has sowed plants of corruption in Jharkhand. The opposition BJP in Jharkhand attacked the Hemant Soren government on Tuesday, alleging that corruption was at its peak in the state, and incidents of murder and rape were increasing. Over 67% polling for Jharkhand's Ramgarh assembly by-election till 5 pm

A voter turnout of over 67.96 per cent was recorded till 5 pm on Monday in the Ramgarh assembly constituency bypoll in Jharkhand, with the polling process being "peaceful", an Election Commission official said. Polling for the by-election began at 7 am amid tight security arrangements and it concluded at 5 pm. However, voters' queue was witnessed in many booths even till 5.30 pm, the official said. Culling of 4,000 chickens, ducks starts in Jharkhand amid bird flu outbreak

The process to cull nearly 4,000 birds, including chickens and ducks, began in Jharkhand's Bokaro district late on Saturday evening after a bird flu outbreak was reported at a state-run poultry farm, an official said. H5N1, a type of avian influenza virus, was confirmed among a protein-rich breed of chicken, 'Kadaknath', at the farm in the Lohanchal where 800 birds died and 103 had to be culled, he said. "The process to cull a total of 3,856 birds, including chickens and ducks, began late this evening in the affected area -- 1 km radius of the farm," Institute of Animal Health & Production, Ranchi, director Dr Bipin Bihari Mahtha told PTI. He said the culling will continue on Sunday as the process is time-consuming. Jharkhand on alert as bird flu cases reported in state-run poultry farm

The Jharkhand government is on alert after bird flu cases were reported in a government-run poultry farm in Bokaro district, official said on Tuesday. The presence of H5N1 variant was confirmed among a protein-rich breed of chicken, popularly known as 'Kadaknath', at the farm in Lohanchal, they said. "Kadaknath chickens died due to bird flu in Government Poultry Farm located in Lohanchal, as per report received from the laboratory...Areas within one km radius has been declared as affected zone and areas within 10 km radius declared as surveillance zone. Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra took oath as the 14th chief justice of the Jharkhand High Court on Monday. Governor CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office to Mishra at the Raj Bhavan here. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, his cabinet colleagues, several judges and senior government officials attended the swearing-in ceremony. The post of the chief justice of the Jharkhand High Court was lying vacant after the superannuation of justice Ravi Ranjan on December 19, 2022. The Union Ministry of Law and Justice on February 17 issued a notification regarding the appointment of justice Mishra as the chief justice of the high court. Justice Sanjaya Kumar Mishra was on Friday appointed as the chief justice of the Jharkhand High Court. A judge at the Uttarakhand High Court at present, Justice Mishra's name was recommended for elevation by the Supreme Court Collegium on December 13 last year. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Jharkhand's Deoghar, where he will lay the foundation stone of a nano urea plant of IFFCO and address a BJP rally on Saturday. Jharkhand gets Rs 5,271 cr from Budget for rail infrastructure augmentation

Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Friday said that Jharkhand has been allocated a whopping Rs 5,271 crore from the Union Budget to augment the railway infrastructure of the state. Addressing the media through video conferencing, the minister said the annual average budget outlay for Jharkhand was around 11 times higher than what the state used to get between 2009 and 2014. He said that as many as 57 stations will be redeveloped in the state and they would be made world-class stations. 51 IEDs found in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum after blast injures 3 jawans

Fifty-one IEDs were found in a search operation in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district on Thursday after three para-military jawans were injured, police said. The IEDs, planted by banned Maoists, were recovered at a forest near Meralgada village in Goilkera police station area, Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Shekhar said. A bomb disposal squad defused the explosives at the spot, he said, adding that the search operation was still underway. Three CRPF jawans of the 60th battalion were injured when Maoists triggered an IED blast at the forest around 11 am. Acting on a tip-off that Maoist leaders have assembled at the forest, a search operation was launched by the security forces and during that time, the IED exploded. Three jawans, identified as Rakesh Pathak, BD Anal and Pankaj Yadav, were injured in the explosion, Shekhar said. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has questioned the returning of a bill by Governor Ramesh Bais, which sought to use 1932 land records to determine the domicile status of people in the state.
