Seven people injured in twin blasts amid heightened security in Jammu

Seven people were injured in two explosions within a span of 15 minutes here on Saturday, sources said. The additional director general of police (Jammu zone) confirmed the explosions and injuries to six people. Hospital sources, however, said seven people were admitted with splinter injuries and all of them are "stable". The blasts in the transport yard of Narwal were triggered by suspected terrorists at a time when security agencies in the region are on high alert amid the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra of the Congress and the upcoming Republic Day celebrations. The first blast occurred around 10.45 am, followed by another explosion, an official said, adding that the whole area was cordoned off and a search operation underway. Fresh light snowfall in parts of Kashmir; Srinagar-Jammu highway closed

Some areas in Kashmir received intermittent light snowfall amid a decrease in minimum temperatures in most parts of the Valley, officials said on Saturday. The bad weather also forced closure of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. Some areas in the Kashmir Valley, especially the upper reaches, received fresh light snowfall early on Saturday, the officials said. Pahalgam, the tourist resort town in south Kashmir's Anantnag district, recorded 13 inches of snow in the last 24 hours, followed by eight inches in Kokernag, six inches in Qazigund and four inches in Shopian, they said. There was very light snowfall in Srinagar, Ganderbal and some other areas in the plains. Some other areas in Jammu and Kashmir received intermittent rainfall. J&K gets third X-Band Doppler Weather Radar for better, timely forecasts

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Union minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday virtually inaugurated X-Band Doppler Weather Radar (DWR) at Banihal Top along the Jammu-Srinagar national highway. The DWR with a range of 100 kilometres is the third such facility installed in Jammu and Kashmir by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to provide better and improved weather services for timely forecasts, warnings and various weather data, an official spokesman said. Congratulating the IMD and the Union Ministry of Earth Sciences, Sinha said the new system would help in the detection of severe weather events and ensure safe conduct of various pilgrimages, especially the annual Amarnath Yatra. Huge cache of weapons seized from terrorist hideout in J&K's Poonch

Security forces on Sunday busted a terrorist hideout in Jammu and Kashmir's border district of Poonch, leading to the recovery of a huge quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives, officials said. The hideout was busted during a joint operation by the police and the Army at Bahian Wali village in Surankote tehsil, they said. Three AK assault rifles, a box containing 10 grenades, a grenade thrower and some ammunition were recovered, the officials said. However, no one was arrested during the operation, which was still going on when the last reports were received.

Jammu and Kashmir Administration has approved a project worth Rs 91 crore for the revival and revitalization of silk industry in the Union Territory through technological interventions, an official said on Sunday. An avalanche hit a village in Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Bandipora district on Saturday, but there was no loss of life or damage to property, officials said, An avalanche warning has been issued for 12 districts including Bandipora after moderate to heavy snowfall a day before, they said.
