K'taka polls: BJP chief holds meeting with leaders on probable candidates

A day before a meeting to finalise candidates for the Karnataka assembly polls, BJP president JP Nadda on Saturday held discussions with key state leaders, including Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and BS Yediyurappa, on probable names. The BJP's parliamentary board will meet on Sunday to finalise candidates for the May 10 elections to the 224-member Karnataka assembly. Before the discussions started, Chief Minister Bommai said, "We will discuss about all probable candidates. We have district and constituency wise details and recent survey outcomes. Keeping all that in mind, we will have a detailed discussion with national leaders." The BJP, which aims to come back to power again in the southern state, has set a target of winning at least 150 of the 224 seats. Asked if the entire list will be announced in one go, Bommai told reporters that barring a few names, the rest may be announced after getting the board's approval. The list of candidates will be finalised at the parliamentar

Nadda speaks to Bengal BJP chief over Ram Navami violence, NIA probe sought

BJP president JP Nadda spoke to his party's West Bengal unit chief Sukanta Majumdar on Monday evening over the situation in violence-hit Howrah and Hooghly districts. Speaking to PTI, Majumdar said Nadda called him around 6.20 pm, and enquired about the prevailing situation in the two districts that were rocked by violence during Ram Navami processions. He said he urged Nadda for the deployment of central forces in the trouble-torn areas, alleging that the state police has failed to control the situation. "I also urged him for an NIA probe into the violence in Hooghly's Rishra and Howrah's Shibpur. The truth can come out only after an NIA probe," he claimed. Majumdar, the Lok Sabha MP of Balurghat, was stopped from going to Rishra in the afternoon by the police, which cited prohibitory orders imposed in the area following Sunday's violence for refusing permission to his visit. "The police did not allow me to visit the area but TMC leaders were freely going there," he said. Seramp

BJP will win more than 200 seats in MP Assembly polls, says Nadda

Bharatiya Janata Party president JP Nadda on Sunday said his party would win more than 200 out of 230 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh, where elections are set to be held at the end of the year. He has arrived in the state capital to lay the foundation stone of a BJP office. "The warm welcome accorded to me by the spirited BJP cadre shows we are going to more than 200 Assembly seats in MP," he said. The 2018 elections in Madhya Pradesh threw up a hung Assembly, with the Congress emerging as the largest party with 114 seats in the 230-member House, while the BJP won on 109 seats. However, the BJP got 41.02 per cent votes against the Congress' 40.89 per cent. The Congress formed a government under Kamal Nath, which fell in March 2020 when MLAs loyal to Jyotiraditya Scindia revolted, paving the way for the return of Shivraj Singh Chouhan as chief minister.

Lies, slander part of Rahul's politics, people will punish him: Nadda

BJP president J P Nadda Friday claimed that Rahul Gandhi has a habit of levelling fabricated allegations having no connection with facts while alleging the Congress leader has a "huge arrogance but little understanding". In a series of tweets amid a political fight between the BJP and the Congress following Gandhi's conviction in a defamation case over the "Modi surname" remarks, Nadda alleged that "lies, personal slander and negative politics is integral" to his politics. People's "punishment" to him will be more severe in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls than in 2019 when he lost in Amethi and the Congress was routed nationally, the BJP leader said. He said, "By comparing OBC communities to thieves, Rahul Gandhi has shown a pathetic and casteist mindset. However, his latest tirade is not surprising. For the last many years, he has always reduced levels of political discourse." Nadda said he repeatedly ignored suggestions from the court and the community to tender an apology for his ...

Congress cannot think beyond one family: Nadda at BJP event in Haryana

BJP president J P Nadda on Sunday lashed out at the Congress, saying it does not have any ideology and cannot think "beyond one family". At the same time, he said, BJP is a party with ideology, "so we have to move forward by working with 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas and Sabka Vishwas'". "They (Congress) cannot think beyond one family," Nadda said addressing BJP's 'Shakti Kendra Samagam' at Samalkha in Panipat, according to a party release. BJP workers of six Lok Sabha segments in the state were among those present at the event, which was also addressed by Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and state BJP chief O P Dhankar. Earlier in the day, after virtually inaugurating the 'National Youth Parliament' of his party's youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha being held in Chennai, Nadda had accused Rahul Gandhi of overstepping all bounds of democracy and said he should be sent packing "lock, stock and barrel" in a democratic manner. The Congress has become mentally bankrupt, the

No place in democracy for those who don't believe in it: JP Nadda

BJP president J P Nadda on Sunday accused Rahul Gandhi of overstepping all bounds of democracy and said he should be sent packing "lock, stock and barrel" in a democratic manner. "Those who do not believe in democracy have no place in democracy," Nadda said in his virtual address after inaugurating the 'National Youth parliament' of his party's youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, being held in Chennai. The Congress has become mentally bankrupt, Nadda said while alleging that Gandhi "instigated" foreign powers like the US and European countries to interfere in India's internal affairs by claiming that they were "oblivious" while democracy was under threat in India. "Rahul Gandhi has crossed all bounds of democracy," he said. What kind of statements he makes, Nadda asked, saying people of India do not listen to him, but merely tolerate him. "Rahul Gandhi not merely insulted the nation by his shameful remarks about the democratic values of India, but has also invited the foreign
