FM Sitharaman invites Canadian pension funds to invest in infra projects

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday invited Canadian pension funds to invest in the National Monetization Pipeline and National Infrastructure Pipeline. The finance minister exchanged views on cooperation for promoting bilateral investment and trade during a meeting with Mary Ng, Canadian Minister of International Trade, Export, Small Business & Economic Development. "FM @nsitharaman complimented Canada for housing some of the largest and most successful pension funds globally and welcomed the investments from Canada into India, including in National Monetization Pipeline #NMP and National Infrastructure Pipeline #NIP," the finance ministry said in a tweet.

438 infrastructure projects show cost overrun of Rs 4.34 trillion

As many as 438 infrastructure projects, each worth Rs 150 crore or more, have been hit by cost overruns totalling more than Rs 4.34 lakh crore, according to a report. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation monitors infrastructure projects worth Rs 150 crore and above. Of the 1,680 such projects, 438 reported cost overruns and 539 were delayed. "Total original cost of implementation of the 1,680 projects was Rs 21,74,182.86 crore and their anticipated completion cost is likely to be Rs 26,08,330.02 crore, which reflects overall cost overruns of Rs 4,34,147.16 crore (19.97 per cent of original cost)," the ministry's latest report for October 2021 said. According to the report, the expenditure incurred on these projects till October 2021 is Rs 12,64,545.31 crore, which is 48.48 per cent of the anticipated cost of the projects. Central Vista: 6 firms submit technical bids to construct Executive Enclave

Six infrastructure firms, including Tata Projects Limited and L&T Limited, have submitted technical bids for the construction of an executive enclave that will house the prime minister's office (PMO), Cabinet secretariat, India House and National Security Council Secretariat, a CPWD official said on Wednesday. The other four firms are Shapoorji Pallonji and Company Limited, NCC Limited, PSP Projects Limited and Ahluwalia Contracts India Limited. The official said the documents submitted by these six construction firms are being checked for their qualification to participate in the financial bids. According to the CPWD's bid document, the project, which is being executed under the Narendra Modi government's ambitious Central Vista redevelopment plan, will be completed within 24 months at an estimated cost of Rs 1,171 crore.
