India, US agree to streamline funding for research projects, says NSF

In a significant move, India and the United States have signed an agreement that would streamline the selection and funding process of research projects between scientists and engineers from the two countries. The opportunities under the arrangement are broad and can nimbly adjust to strategic priorities and researcher interests in computer science and engineering, geosciences, math and physical sciences, engineering, and emerging technologies, the National Science Foundation (NSF), an independent agency of the US that supports fundamental research and education in all the non-medical fields of science and engineering, said on Wednesday. "Through the creation of these opportunities, we are emphasising to the science and technology communities and the world that our governments are serious about breaking down barriers and facilitating collaboration," said NSF Director Sethuraman Panchanathan. The Indian-American NSF director said that the implementation of the arrangement would ...

India will cut import tariff on pecans by 70 per cent: Senator Jon Ossoff

India has agreed to reduce the import tariff on pecans by 70 per cent, said an influential American Senator, who has been campaigning on it for the last one year. Senator Jon Ossoff, who represents Georgia in the US Senate and met seven times with India's Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu over the last year, on Wednesday said that the reduction in tariff on pecans would help the farmers in his constituency. Today I can announce that after a year of painstaking diplomacy, the Indian government will cut that tariff by 70 per cent. This is a huge win for Georgia pecan farmers, and it wouldn't be possible without them, Ossoff said. Ossoff said India's high pecan tariffs have prevented Georgia pecan exports to this market of more than one billion consumers. He thanked US Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai for her steadfast support, Sandhu for his constructive engagement, Senator Warnock for his teamwork, and Georgia's farmers for their perseverance to secure this ...

India-US bilateral trade may reach $500-600 billion by 2030: Piyush Goyal

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Saturday exuded confidence that the India-US bilateral trade in goods and services will reach USD 500-600 billion by 2030 as their relation continues to strengthen. The trade between the two countries stands at about USD 175 billion at present. On whether India will join the trade pillar of 14-member Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF), Goyal said it would depend on what India will get in return. While 13 member countries have joined all four subjects -- trade, supply chains, clean economy and fair economy-- under IPEF, India has opted out of the trade pillar as of now. It has joined the other three subjects. "With regard to joining the trade pillar of IPEF, India decides its strategy on its own terms...If you want binding commitments (from India) on different subjects, tell me what I am getting in return. It has to be good for my people and my country. What you give me in return will determine whether I will join t

US has very close partnership, defence relationship with India: Pentagon

The United States has a very close defence relationship with India, the Pentagon has said as it dismissed questions about the latest multinational military exercises involving Russia, India and China. India's a sovereign nation, they can make their own decisions in terms of who they're going to conduct exercises with, Pentagon Spokesman Brig Gen Patrick Ryder told reporters at his news conference on Tuesday. Certainly, we have appreciated our partnership with India in the region. They're an important partner, as you know. And we'll continue to work closely with them, he said responding to a question on India participating in a war game with Russia and China. They have participated in games -- war games with Russia and China, which seems a little bit troubling to some people, he was asked. We have a very close partnership and relationship -- defence relationship with India. We obviously will continue to work with India and further develop that relationship, Ryder said. The Vostok .

India and the US on Friday renewed for another five years a global development partnership agreement that provides for jointly offering assistance to their partner countries in areas of connectivity, trade and investments, healthcare and agriculture. Both sides signed the second amendment to the Statement of Guiding Principles (SGP) on Triangular Cooperation for Global Development, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
