PKL season 8 final to be held on Feb 25; playoffs on Feb 21, 23

The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) final will be held on February 25 while the two play-off prior to the mega match will be held on February 21 and 23 respectively, organizers said on Wednesday. "The playoffs are scheduled to be held on 21st February and on 23rd February. The grand finale of Pro Kabaddi Season 8 is scheduled to be held on 25th February," a media release issued here said on Wednesday. It also said that the top six teams will then battle it out for the PKL trophy. Anupam Goswami, CEO, Mashal Sports and League Commissioner, PKL said: "We have been able to conduct the league day-on-day with no break this is a huge achievement and milestone, not just for kabaddi, but for the resumption of all indoor & contact sports." Indian swimming team leaves for Olympic qualifying event in Uzbekistan

A 13-member Indian team, including Sajan Prakash and Srihari Nataraj, will leave for Tashkent on Friday to compete at the Uzbekistan Open Swimming Championship, a Tokyo Olympic qualifying event. Starting from April 12 in the Uzbekistan capital, it is a FINA accredited Olympic qualifier. Apart from Olympic B qualifiers Nataraj and Prakash who are hoping to make the A qualification for the Tokyo Games, the team comprises other seniors like Maana Patel, Shivani Kataria and a few TOPS (Target Olympic Podium Scheme) development group swimmers. The team is accompanied by seasoned coaches Nihar Ameen, Pradeep Kumar and Asian Games medallist swimmer turned coach Sandeep Sejwal, a media release said. This will be the first international meet for Indian swimmers since the COVID-19 lockdown in March last year. Nethra Kumanan becomes first Indian woman sailor to qualify for Olympics

Nethra Kumanan on Wednesday became the first Indian woman sailor to qualify for the Olympics after she was assured of a top-place finish in the laser radial event of the Asian Qualifiers in Oman. The 23-year-old Kumanan has a 21-point advantage over her nearest rival, who also happens to be an Indian -- Ramya Saravanan -- in the Laser Radial Class event with one race to go on Thursday. The Chennai-based Kumanan currently has 18 points while Saravanan has 39 on the penultimate day of competitions in Mussanah Open Championship, which is a joint Asian and African Olympic qualifying event. In sailing, the athlete who has the least points wins the competition. The final race on Thursday is a 20 pointer and Kumanan has already sealed it with one round to go.
