Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane on Friday urged leading Defence PSU Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to take up new initiatives to aggressively compete in the defence market and focus on new areas like unmanned vehicles, as the country is in need of these advanced systems. Aramane today inaugurated the third LCA production line and also handed over 100th Sukhoi-30 MKI (Repairs and Overhaul) aircraft to Air Vice Marshal Sarin, VSM, Assistant Chief of Air Staff (Eng A), Indian Air Force in a programme at HAL's Nashik Division. According to HAL, the Defence Secretary lauded its efforts in taking up the challenge of setting up an facility for Su-30 MKI and also establishing a new production line for LCA manufacturing. The Government has come out with several Aatmanirbhar Bharat' policies, and that puts HAL in a very important position. HAL will be producing more in the coming years. Rs 6,828-crore aircraft contract sanctioned for HAL in Maharashtra's Nashik

The Union government has sanctioned Rs 6,828 crore worth of contract to Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) at Ozar in Nashik district for manufacturing 70 HTT-40 aircraft, a central minister said on Wednesday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given his approval to HAL to manufacture these aircraft, Union Minister of State for Health Dr Bharti Pawar said in a press release here. The PSU has been manufacturing defence equipment since 1964. The Union government's decision will generate work for around 3,000 officers and employees of HAL, said the release.

DGCA approves modification for Hindustan-228 aircraft with 19 passengers

A new variant of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited's aircraft 'Hindustan 228-201 LW' has been approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), HAL announced on Monday. This variant has maximum take-off weight of 5,695 kg with 19 passenger capability, the Bengaluru-headquartered HAL said in a statement. With this modification, the aircraft would fall in the Sub 5,700 kg aircraft category, it said. "This variant provides several operational benefits for operators such as reduced pilot qualification requirement enabling pilots with Commercial Pilot License to fly the aircraft, enhanced availability of pilot pool for the aircraft and reduced operational cost," HAL said. In addition, the new variant will result in reduced training requirement for flying and ground crew including aircraft maintenance engineers, it was stated.

GE Marine, HAL sign MOU to explore marine gas turbine manufacturing

GE Marine and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on Tuesday said that have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the expansion of HAL's manufacturing capabilities to include assembly, inspection and testing (AIT) of the LM500 marine gas turbine. Since 1986, HAL's IMGT Division has been providing AIT of GE's LM2500 marine gas turbine, which is installed aboard Indian Navy's P-17, P-17A, and IAC-1 Vessels. As on date, HAL has delivered 22 LM2500 gas turbines for 11 Indian naval vessels. The MOU will explore allowing HAL to perform AIT for GE's LM2500 marine gas turbine for use in an indigenous four mega-watt gas turbine generator for possible installation aboard future Indian naval vessels, a joint statement said.

Aero India 2023: HAL's 'Next Gen Supersonic Trainer' on display

The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited will display for the first time the scale model of Hindustan Lead in Fighter Trainer (HLFT-42), at the Aero India to be held here from Monday. HLFT-42 is the 'Next Gen Supersonic Trainer' that will play a "critical role" in modern combat aircraft training with state-of-the-art avionics like Active Electronically Scanned Array, Electronic Warfare Suite, Infrared Search and Track with Fly by Wire control system, the HAL said.
