The domestic two wheeler industry has seen interesting moves last month. The battle for market leadership between Hero MotoCorp and former partner Honda in the world's biggest two wheeler market is intensifying. Japanese two wheeler major Honda has closed the large gap with market leader Hero MotoCorp and has come to a striking distance of the numero uno position. While it could be one-off case but in April Honda has sold a record 5.79 lakh two wheelers, just 12,300 units less than the market leader Hero. This also includes small export volumes.Last month, when Hero's sales declined more than three per cent, Honda managed to grow volumes by 34 per cent, on the back of a 40 per cent surge in scooter sales. Hero MotoCorp has renewed its association with the Star India and IMG Reliance-promoted Indian Super League (ISL) for another three years, tripling its investment in the domestic football tournament.
