Addressing the programme, Soren said that after the state industrial policy was unveiled two years ago, several investors have shown keen interest to invest in the state, and the TCIL project is one such. The expansion project will create about 1,000 new jobs directly, and over 5,000 indirectly, he said. Lauding the Tata Group's contribution to the development of Jharkhand, Soren said a cancer hospital of the conglomerate in Ranchi was ready for inauguration. The Tata Group has also proposed to set up a hotel in Jamshedpur, he said. Soren said Jharkhand has an abundance of mineral resources, and it also has enough potential for tourism. "We want more industries in the state as it would improve the standard of living of the people," he said. Tata Steel CEO and MD TV Narendran said the expans

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday blamed the opposition BJP for the state's backwardness, alleging that the party has converted it into a grazing ground in the past 20 years. In his reply to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor's address, he also alleged that the saffron party that bolstered development in states like Maharashtra and Gujarat has sowed plants of corruption in Jharkhand. "In the past 20 years, they (BJP) converted Jharkhand into a grazing ground and a centre of loot," he alleged. Jharkhand was created in November 2000. While Soren blamed the previous Raghubar Das-led BJP regime for fuelling corruption, the saffron camp members insisted that he speak on alleged indulgence in corruption by his officials including suspended and arrested IAS officer Pooja Singhal. Soren, however, asserted that the MGNREGA scam in connection with which the ED arrested the official occurred during the BJP regime, prompting the party legislators to stage a ..
The opposition BJP in Jharkhand attacked the Hemant Soren government on Tuesday, alleging that corruption was at its peak in the state, and incidents of murder and rape were increasing. Participating in a discussion on the Motion of Thanks to Governor CP Radhakrishnan's address in the assembly, BJP chief whip Biranchi Narayan alleged that law and order has taken a backseat in the state with government officers and political leaders patronising criminals. Transfers and postings of officials have become a "profitable trade" in the state, he said. "The governor's speech was a bundle of lies... The government is a failure on all fronts -- Health, Irrigation, Power and Roads... Corruption is at its peak," he alleged. Members of the ruling coalition opposed his comments with Congress MLA Deepika Pandey Singh alleging that cases of corruption were reported during the BJP government as well. Claiming that no one is safe in Jharkhand, Narayan referred to the attacks on doctors in the ...

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren has questioned the returning of a bill by Governor Ramesh Bais, which sought to use 1932 land records to determine the domicile status of people in the state. Soren asserted that his government had framed the Khatiyan' or land records-based legislation to provide employment to local residents on priority basis in class 3 and 4 grade (clerical, semi-skilled and unskilled) jobs. "However, unfortunately, the governor of the state returned the bill," Soren said on Tuesday, while addressing a public meeting during his ongoing second phase of 'Khatiyan Johar Yatra', at Gopal Maidan here. Attacking the BJP without naming it, Soren said feudalistic forces have been "exploiting adivasis and accusing us that whatever we do is unconstitutional. The CM, who mostly spoke in Santali language, said, "We urged the central government to approve the bill if it fell within its jurisdiction, because 3.25 crore people of the state who possess the Khatiyan' (land ..

Earlier attempts to drive out the red rebels from Budha Pahad' did not materialise due to its difficult terrain, they added.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday said the Hemant Soren government must check infiltrators, out to grab land in Jharkhand, by marrying tribal women. Accusing Soren of "destroying Jharkhand", Shah claimed that the JMM dispensation has indulged in "looting" mineral resources and "betrayed" tribals in the name of 'khatiyan'. The Hemant Soren government, which has also accused the BJP of "plundering" the state's wealth, wants to prepare a list of original residents of the state based on the 1932 land records which would implicitly identify a large number of non-tribals as later migrants. "The Hemant Soren government must check infiltrators, out to grab land, by marrying tribal women," Shah said while addressing 'Vijay Sankalp Maha-rally' in West Singhbhum district's Chaibasa, around 150-km away from the state's capital Ranchi.
