Hyderabad rains: NDRF teams still in action; govt steps up relief measures

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), which is engaged in rescue operations in the rain affected areas of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, on Friday said they have evacuated over 600 people from the inundated parts of the city, neighbouring Rangareddy district and East Godavariof Andhra Pradesh. Some localities here, close to water bodies, remained in water even as the Telangana government continued relief efforts, officials said today. According to a NDRF press release,rescue and evacuation operations by NDRF in the flood hit cities of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra continued as there is water in many of the areas due to heavy rainfall. "Today, NDRF teams have rescued about 200 stranded persons from Solapur district of Maharashtra and evacuated more than 600 persons in flood affected cities Hyderabad & Rangareddy of Telangana and East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh," it said. PM assures Andhra, Telangana CMs of all help following heavy rains

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and AndhraPradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday after the two southern states were hit by heavy rains and assured them of all possible support and assistance from the Centre in the rescue-and-relief work. At least 10 and 15 people were killed in rain-related incidents across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana respectively, following torrential downpour in the last 48 hours. In a tweet, the prime minister said, "Spoke to @TelanganaCMO KCR Garu and AP CM @ysjagan Garu regarding the situation in Telangana and AP respectively due to heavy rainfall. Assured all possible support and assistance from the Centre in rescue & relief work. My thoughts are with those affected due to the heavy rains.
